ocellaris turning black?

Well, I got a small ocellaris from my LFS the other day, sold as a 'percula clown' but duly acknowledged to be ocellaris. He's about 1.5" and has black shading in his anterior dorsal fin, and on his middle orange bars, coming downward from his spine.
I've heard mention of these guys responding to low light conditions (my tank's pretty low light). I haven't really been able to find anything conclusive on when a juvenile black ocellaris starts turning black though, so i wonder... Did i get a black and white for the price of a standard?

Sorry my camera doesn't pick up the color very well, but i hope this gives you a decent idea of what i'm talking about.

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

looks like you got what you paid for a percula clown, a false percula clown that is. true percula clowns have a much more bright and prominant white stripes with a darker black that will spread around the white bars.

Its definitely not a Black O. Not all Percs develop a large amount of black. Many are identical colouring to a regular Ocellaris. The stripes are just as white on many Ocellaris as they are on Percs. Counting spines is the only reliable way of determining the difference between a Perc and Ocellaris. I would like alot clearer picture to make a determination.

Unfortunately he's a bit camera shy.
The question is not whether he is ocellaris or percula, as i am almost 100% certain that he is ocellaris.
What i'm wondering is what might be the cause of the black smudging. I noticed a few others in the LFS tank that had the same thing.
Here's a video. I apologize for the poor quality, the camera just doesn't do a very good job of picking up his coloration.

I'll try and get some better pictures tomorrow with the better camera.

Its likely due to an interaction with a coral / nem. I wouldn't worry about it. It will go away. My Percs had black smudge like marks on them when I got them too.

Ok. There is a bubbletip in the tank, which he inspected (wouldn't really call it hosting) for about 20 minutes the day after i got him, then has left it alone since. Oh well, wouldn't it be cool if i managed to snag a black and white for $15?! He's a nice little guy though. I had a maroon in there before, and I came to two conclusions - he's not happy in that small a tank, and i want a species that won't demolish conspecifics. Solution? Ocellaris!
I taped up a picture of an ocellaris hosting a bubbletip on either side wall of the tank to encourage him to host. I'm hoping to put a misbar black, and a naked in there with him as well. Before i start a new thread in the wrong place, can anyone advise me on where to post asking for help finding ora tank-raised's online?

Thanks for the insight, guys.
