octo extreme 160 problem

my octo extreme skims great getting out lots of dark smelly skimate most of the time... every few days the pump stops pumping water. It is trying to work but no water. I have to pull the pump out of the sump to get it started again. Any suggestions???

u using the stock pinwheel/venturi?
and have you been experiencing "brown outs" with the power at your home?

I am using the stock pinwheel. We have had a few brownouts which do cause the same problem, but my concern is when we don't have a power problem and the impeller stops spinning... If it was only during brownouts I wouldn't worry. Any other suggestions??? My "B" pipe is about 2" under water.. should I cut it? Could that have anything to do with this?

Sounds like the impeller is to snug on the magnet.

yep, that's what i was thinking, or maybe calcium build up.
also, that pinwheel is crap compared to the ATB/SWC/WM pinwheels available for that pump. It could just be from shotty manufacturing...

I think I may be getting a power drain in my dc8 when my 250 watt Ice cap starts up causing the pump to not have enough power. I am going to try plugging it into it's own outlet and see if the problem stops. It is a new clean pump so calcium isn't the problem. It could be a small manufacturing defect in the for of the impeller though.
