octo food question

This would be a excellent source of food. Yo might want to add a little variety like clams, musscles and snails as well. What species do you have?
I have a Bimac, it is very small, maybe about 4" tent from mantle. Had five hermit crabs but they are all gone now and i have ghost shrimp in FW tank. can i feed them to the octo? If so how do i accl. them to salt water? Just till i get shrimp. I also have a 75gal FW tank that i am raising mollies in but the octo shows no interest in the fish yet?

from what I've seen of the ghost shrimp, they live for several days in the salt water even if you just throw them in.
I feed them to seahorses, and that's whatI noticed.
From what I've read, Octo's will eat them like candy.
I could be wrong on the last part though.

Ghost shrimp are great food for small octos. Thats what I am using to feed my babies. They are fresh water and will not live more than a day or two in salt. I gut load mine with cyclop-eeze. You can get salt water versions. Here are a couple of links.

Where do you guys get the food for your bimacs? That is still the one thing that gets me. I have everything else down, but food. I know they like crabs and shrimp, but where do you guys get them? Isn't that expensive?
Well I hit a stroke of luck today. I was out running errands an noticed a new meat and seafood market so I went in to check them out. Long story short I told them i had an Octopus and they were shocked. They had live everything, from scallops, snails, mussells,etc... you name it they had it live in tanks in from Maine.
Well the owner got me a bag of all kinds of stuff for the octo. told me to see what it would eat and that she had to come see it soon.
When i got home, there was 20 snails,6 scallops, 8 clams,4 oysters, and 3 mussels all for $3.00. All are alive and doing very well:eek1: The lady told me she would give me the same price if i came in and bought from her... Wonder if she knows she is the only one i can buy from? Way cool,,, live food when ever i want it .... I think i got a great deal... Now i just need to see if she will eat them....

I live in Southern California. When you go to the beach/tidepools at low tide there are TONS of things to see. Including a plethora of Hermit crabs. All you need is a permit ($29.99/year) to collect up to 50 hermits a day.
... I don't have an octo yet, still waiting for my system to cycle. But whe I do I am lucky to have all that food close to me. And its fun to collect it too!
