Has anyone done any mods to the external recirc octo skimmer?
I know there are tons of threads about Octo Mods, but I haven't seen any pics of Recirc skimmers being modded.
This skimmer:

EDIT: i read your post agian and realized you are looking for mods for the recirc skimmer! not any octo skimmer. but i think a good upgrade to that skimmer might be the pump itself.

i recirc'd a nw-200 with a sicce psk-2500. the meshwheel seemed to be to much for the neck so i ordered a needlewheel form cnc ($15) and it seems to be a nice match. very stable with no start up issues.

here are some pics w/ 2 days of skimming on a 210g mixed reef.

i mesh modded my octo 3000 pump on my diy skimmer also modded the venturi from a 1/8 inch tubing to 1/4 inch tubing, sorry i have no pics the pump rocks with those mods

Jcato- I notice on your skimmer that the pumps inlet and outlet PVC plumbing look like 3/4-1 inch. Is that stock or DIY? How much did you pay for the sicce? I have mine mounted externally, do you foresee any issues with that?

the original inlet on the octo was cut off and new 1" uniseals were drilled, all pvc is 1", everything i have read says not to run a sicce out of the water but a few people have done it.

Does your skimmer have any leaks? I know it is in a sump so you have no worries, but my is external. I would like to open up the outlet on my OTP 3000, but I need to figure some way to keep the original male fittings on the skimmer becuase I no place around has metric unions etc. I may be able to take the metric female off the stock elbow and put in on a new 3/4 PVC elbow.
Has any attempted this?

Thanks,
Brandon.

lflint: i have tee'd into my return to the sump to get the flow but i would estimate around 400gph.

tangtang clown: i had the same issues with the metric fitting and thats why i decided to just re-do it with uniseals, but to answer your? no there are no leaks with the uniseal's just make sure you use the correct size hole saw when you drill them. the whole saw sizes are listed on this site.

Orca Systems (www.protein-skimmer.com) sells the Sicce 2500 for $109 and has the mesh mod kit with a machined air intake thingy for the venturi for $9. They are out of stock right now but have good customer service so they'll keep you up to date on the backorder. I ordered one from them before and it's awesome. I have another one coming from them now. Their site isn't the greatest but if you dig in you'll find the pumps.

I have the Octopus 200 recirculating skimmer. I mesh modded the stock impeller but could never get much air flowing into it so I use a TetraTec Deep Water air pump with both outlets feeding the venturi. It's a little too much air (induced cavitation) so I have it throttled back with a John Guest valve. That worked pretty well for about a year but wasn't quite keeping up with my bioload.

So... I added a Sicce 2500 to the body of the skimmer with two uniseals. the Sicce is meshmodded. Together the pumps make one hell of a stinky, brown mess in a hurry. :-)

I'll work on getting some pictures around in a week or two. I'm rebuilding my saltwater system and am relocating everything in the basement. I'll photograph everything to document what I've got and will post photos here.

How is your skimmer performing?
I recently added a mag 12 as the feed pump and the foam making increased.
Still not getting much skimmate b/c I think my skimmer is way over sized for my 75.
