October MTRC Meeting

I hope that the officers don't take this as a criticism, as I know we all have work and private lives... but more people might be able to attend these monthly meetings if we had dates and times a couple of weeks in advance of the meeting.

i second that,im not sure exactly how it works with ya guys and i dont mean to make this sound wrong or anything but id be more then happy to organize these meetings,times,dates and i even have ideas on how to make more people show up to meetings...i know zef and others have alot on their plates,i my self dont have near as much on mine and i would actually enjoy it......just a thought :beer:
 
one person to deal with the one issue of making meetings,times for them and making sure its far in advance that everyone can come if not at least 60% of us, hang in there zach,im sure they will figure something out
 
There's been no benefit for me the last 2 years, I see no reason to continue and the club has only gotten worse. I can still talk to those I wish to and not waste $20.

thats a good point which i stated to my wife as well....hopefully this will be enough motovation to fix the problem

I don't think that's a bad idea at all as some of the officers have been MIA. I know sometimes people aren't able to attend because of certain reasons. I know the officers setup that meeting last time where no one really attended and it's hard work setting up those stuffs. But I would love to attend this upcoming one if I just know the time.
 
well i'd hate to see anyone leave the club and i'd hate to leave my self......i love this hobby and i think its cool and having guys and girls like ya'll to talk to about it and share ideas about it is very cool to me, its just one of many thoughts i have on the issue is all
 
This year has been a very tough year for the club with regards to the fact that we elected a president who was unable to finish his term, and several other things that have arisen in the past few months. while I am not a BOD member, I have been around the club for a good while and have noticed this trend lately.

believe it or not, being a member of the BOD does take alot of time and effort to keep up with our 100+ current members. Zef is doing the best he can as I know he is very busy in his personal and professional life. Andy and his wife are also very busy.

yes, the events could be better planned and advertised here. Zef, can you please let everyone here know when the meeting will be. thanks,
 
I can understand everyone frustrations about where the club is going/not going currently and I think that one of the reasons for these problems are that you guys are NOT speaking up enough.

Let me clear up what I mean by that....

A couple of months while I was still the secretary (Before the flooding happened) I had a bunch of ideas for the club and one of them was having our own Tank of Quarter on our MTRC website. Everyone loved the idea and agreed that it would help the traffic for the site itself and would be a nice incentive too for members to keep up with their tanks.

But what happened to that idea since I left??? Has any single member here asked about that since then?

What about the ideas of doing our own "How to" videos where things are explained very simply for people that arent up on all this reef lingo and that find things like setting up a calcium reactor a daunting task... These are just 2 ideas that everyone jumped on board and said they really liked but no one pursued them afterwards.

Both of these options could be done without much expense at all... I'm sure most of you have a digital camera and some of you would be willing to help do all this.. The only thing after that would be to get andy to put it up on the website...

These are just 2 basic examples... but how many of you are sitting there right now with ideas just like these (probably better than this lol) and dont speak up?

How many times and how many members (including myself) have complained that the MTRC website itself looks like garbage?.... Why has this still not been addressed?... It's because the members have not pushed for it to change that's why.

Guys/Gals remember that this is YOUR club.... If you want something to be done then make yourself heard either at meetings or thru this website.

Zach I understand fully what you are saying about not really having a good reason to pay 20 bucks just to talk to people that you can talk for free to... But that's because you already have a ton of reef knowledge but everyone isnt so lucky...

For example.. When I set up my 95 gal tank I had never plumbed a sump before and had no idea where to begin or who to turn to because the only people I really knew that had saltwater fish tanks had them because I helped them set theirs up so they knew less than me.

So I turned to the club and was helped out by gsusfreak (John) who came over and went to home depot with me to buy everything and he hooked everything up and explained everything to me... no charge or anything like that... just because he wanted to help.

Being part of the club is not all about the money you save at the stores... Yeah the savings are nice no doubt but it's about more than that.

I think it's great when the club has meetings and you walk into a room full of strangers but you know that you at least have 1 thing in common. You meet and become friends with people that you might have never even talked to in your whole life if it werent for the club.

If you feel that the 20 bucks you're putting in is not being put to use and you dont see any changes at all then say something about it. Get enough people behind you and the board will have no choice BUT to listen and take action.

I think the big misconception here is that the board is in charge of the club and it isnt.. not at all... The members have the say... If the board says we're going to do this and no one agrees then you can bet it will be changed ASAP.

The board simply serves to make things happen that can only be done in a controlled and organized way (meetings, frag swaps, etc)..

I am not trying to stir anything up here.... well not trouble at least, I am only trying to stir up the members of this club to speak up and take charge of this club cause it's yours.
 
Thanks for what you guys did for the club. However, I feel like people are too busy doing their stuff for their personal life, that's why some excellent ideas are not executed. For me, that's totally fine, however, there are some more important stuff for this club.

I think two of the most important things are frag swap and the monthly meeting/meet up. I know some of you worked really hard for the frag swap, but not giving people more information for the meeting 5 days from now is probably not a good idea..

Is there any problems we should be aware of? in past few months, when Leah, Andy, Zef were involved with scheduling the meeting, things were great.
 
At the risk of being bopped on the head by Zef, do we still not have a time for Sunday? I work every Sunday doing my company's payroll - and I've gotta notify folks today if I need to change the deadline for their timesheets...

I really want to come to the meeting - I've never been to Emerald Bay Fish.

BTW, I posted a suggestion on the MTRC web site a couple of months ago and it never got a single response/reply. It was to set up an acronym/abbreviation database/list of sorts - cause half the time I don't know what ya'll are talking about on here! LOL And it made me feel kinda dumb that I didn't know what an "MP3" or "FS/FT" meant (I do now). Its hard to search on acronyms on the web. "MP3" for instance, brings up nothing but guns!

I really like mike's suggestions above as well. :)
 
from what i understand talking to scott at EBAY, they wouldnt open up the inside until after business hours to not interfere with normal business, but are thinking about doing a cookout outside before they close, they are just trying to figure out how early to start.....
 
well i second mikes and jennies ideas and i still think only one person needs to be in charge of planing and setting up these meetings.......no offence but i was a manager at walmart and our system worked well when it came to planing stuff........if ya want off on say sunday the 27 then ya have to put in for it 3 weeks in advance.....same would work here too....set up a meeting, say at emraldbay or where ever......place the meetings stats and info on here that early in advance....because for many they need that amount of time to let theie boss know or let whomever know about it.....i would even go as far as to talk with each member we have here and see the days that they may consistantly have off......like if 10 of ya were off on saturdays them most probably meetings would be then.....other things come into play with it then just that but thats just a small example

Well i for one dont know why it is every few months this ugly monster rears its head in the club with the Board is not doing this or that. Guys i could go through the spill again off all the stuff the board has tried to do, which were all things that we discussed with great enthusiasm but when we tried to do something for the club no one wanted help or or we caved in to the few who tend to cry about everything. A club is only as good as its members and most of the members on here are MIA at best so what do you expect the board to do with so little engagement or turn out when we do do something for the club. We set up meeting that are not jsut fish related, NO ONE SHOWS UP we try doing weekend aquarium trips NO ON COMMITS we bribe you with prizes and then a few show up. Why dont we just pay the members to stay a part of the club would that get some engagement. So I for one am sick of all this the board does this does not do that Why dont you as members do something when we try to get you engaged our actions require action on your part to be enjoyed or to realize the benefit of the club. It would not matter if we gave you a year in advance of times and dates of meetings no one would reply until the last minute. That has been the case since i have been apart of this club for 3 years. If you are not happy with the club PLEASE GOD DO NOT REJOIN WE DONT WANT TO HEAR YOUR ****ING AND MOANING ANYMORE GO AND ANNOY SOMEONE ELSE AND SPREAD YOUR VOMITOUS SPEECH ELSEWHERE SO THAT YOU CAN LET BAD ATTITUDE AND STRIFE RUIN WHATEVER ELSE YOU ARE INVOLVED IN.
