October pictures of my 150gallon mixed/sps reef

I went on their website. That's way different than when i went. They must have new ownership. They have decent prices?

they have very good prices. This is just a standard 150gallon tank. You can get them in the long version which is 72"x18x18 but i like this version better.

Thanks for sharing, you have a beautiful tank. Can you tell me what mode the vortechs are on and what and how much you feed your tank?

the mode that the vortechs are on varies. Sometimes it is on reef crest if I feel I want to give the fish a workout and kick up any detritus that is stuck between the rocks. Sometimes I will turn it down to pulse mode so the Colt coral can open up in all its glory. I feed my tank a pretty good amount. The fish are fed 2-3 times per day with spectrum pellets, mysis shrimp, pe mysis shrimp, ova prawn, cyclopse, nori, some brine if I want to give the fish a treat.

Hi Brandon, I have the long version of the 150g and only have 2 vortech mp40's which I run on short pulpe mode. I also have a large colt that enjoys this back and forth flow but you have really opened my mind to more flow. Your tank is so clean, I am always battling algaes. For the last couple of days I have put the vortechs on full blast for a couple of hours a day and I think it really is helping clean up, I might even have to add more flow, what do you think about the Tunze waveboxes??

Beautiful tank. Mixed reefs are my favorite. Nice array of different corals all existing fine together.

Are you running any reactors or have a refugium? How often do you do wc's and how do you get away with feeding so much and have the sps do fine? Could it be your flow/good skimming?

thanks

thank you very much everyone for the comments. I attribute most of the success of the system to the amount of flow. I feel that flow is sometimes underlooked. If you think about it, within an aquarium setting not only is flow a key aspect of life support but it is also a key aspect of filtration. It keeps particles suspended in the water column and not allowing them to settle and form dead spots in the aquarium. I love tunze wave boxes but dont have any room to put them without them being an eye sore. I do not have a fuge but a pretty large sump that I keep clean. I run a phos reactor and 2 filter socks on the system. As much as I love sps I find my self liking softies and lps better. They give the system movement and a colour contrast, especially with the bulb combo I am running. I am actually going to start a 14gallon sps tank for the heck of it so I may be posting more pictures in this thread. Tomorrow I will post and updated shot of the tank

Brandon, thanks again for sharing the details of your tank. I am increasing flow and looking at bulb comparison from your tank to mine to figure out why I battle alage. I have 80w T5's on the front of the tank,
Giesman Actinic
Aquascience 22000
Aquascience 22000
Giesman Blue Plus
then on the back of the tank between the overflows I have a fixture with 4 54W T5's,
Fiji Purple
Bluelite 450mn
Current 10k
bluelite450mn
I like the look of my tank and from what I can tell from a picture it looks alot like yours. Can you tell me which bulbs I should look at changing to help get rid of my algae issues? Not sure if I should have asked this here in your thread or sent you a pm??

what kind of algae are you getting? A picture would probably better allow me to tell you what I would do. I know that I was batteling a brown slimy algae that went away after I blew it off the rocks for about 3 weeks.
