My Octopus NW 3000 Skimmer pump seized up and cost me bigtime. My skimmer is the NW 200 by octopus. Its a great skimmer but the pump is trouble. My pump would seize up or stop running quite a bit more then it should. Well yesterday it was seized to the point it started to throw current into the aquarium, and it melted a hole in the plastic case right under the needle wheel impeller. it was sending current into the tank, I found out by touching the glass and getting the 9Volt battery on your tongue feeling. After i unplugged the pump the current was gone. I lost lots of fish that ive had for years. Not sure where to turn, or who to contact. My tank is gfi protected, and it has a sump grounding rod so im not sure why it didnt trip. Maybe because the sump grounding rod is plugged into the gfi ? I have contacted an electrician to look at the panel and verify evrything is ok. As for The pump, is it worth contacting the mfg. ? And finally what pump can i use to replace the octopus 3000 (750gph), Im guessing a mag or eheim or sedra?
