I have seen a lot of wierd things coming from my rock after the lights go off. Nothing could prepair me for a large octopus to pop out of the rock. Its body was larger then a astera snail and its tentecals were about 4inchs long! I have no idea where he was hiding. has anyone else had one of these? are they reef safe?
Here was the best pic I could get as i was running for my camera :) Ill try all night to get a better pic.

Cool critter!

Cool critter!

One of the coolest critters in the ocean.....he is a gulf dwarf....lives two years....that one is about six months old...

Reef safe?

In the big picture, nothing is reef safe, as everything, eats everything in the ocean......the trade off, is how cool is he....

you can feed them raw shrimp....he will eat crabs also....

Ok Cool-

Does anybody think it will harm corals and what about the good shrimp like the peppermints? I would like to keep him and ill try to feed him if you think it will keep the tank mates safe. I think if I get a good chance to catch him I might move him to a seperate tank.

He is really cool and i definatly want to keep him.

I got one with my shipment as well. I have not seen him since the day he went in the tank about two and a half months ago.

I have looked in every nook in my tank and never even glimpsed him. He has to still be in there because there is nothing in there that could eat him, and I haven't seen him on the floor (thank God).

Yeah im alittle worried that ill never see him again and my crab and shrimp numbers will start to go down :( I did find a Crab that looks to be a gorrilla about the size of a silver dollar! Do they get that big? Im going to work on getting him out today.
