Octopus NW 150 skimmer

Hi all,

I've got a used Octopus NW-150 protein skimmer (and pump) that I'm not using anymore. If anyone's interested in a guinea pig for modding or something, I'd be happy to trade it for something.

The reason I suggest as a mod toy, is because the airline tubing connection to the pump broke off, so it has to be manually jammed in. Every couple of weeks, it either comes a bit loose, or becomes encrusted in salt creep... either way it stops pulling air until you manually fix it.

Aside from this fault, it's an otherwise pretty good skimmer, it served me well for a year. I hear they are good targets for a variety of mods, including re-doing the air-line to get it to draw air, which would likely be needed to avoid a head-ache long term.

But, since it's got this fault, I don't feel comfortable straight-up selling it. But its collecting dust over here now, and has plenty of potential! If anyone is interested, let me know.

Here's a couple of photos of the skimmer, one of the whole thing (disassembled, as it is stored now), and another is a close-up of the airline and broken attachment to the pump.

thanks for the reply killingseed... while we still may be able to work something out, I was thinking more along the lines of the folks here in Albuquerque, simply because it would be a pain to ship plus if its a trade for something else, I wouldn't want any livestock/corals shipped to me. If someone local wanted it, I could just drive to their home or they could come to mine, much easier :).

Just scrap off the glue on the end of the peice that broke off and put it in with some more super glue. Then drill the hole out from the inside of the volute. All fixed.......You can also order a new improved volute for them with larger air capacity....

thanks a bunch for the info SWSaltwater :). I've already upgraded to an AquaC EV-180, so this bad-boy won't be used for my tank anymore. However, for whoever else ends up taking this, thats exactly the kind of thing they could do to soup it up!

shipping wasnt in my mind at all. there are people that do travel back and forth from here and there. or we could meet half way. or i might be able to make the whole trip up.

thats cool killingseed, let me talk about it with my lady... we've got a 2 year old, and I'm not crazy about taking her on a 8 hour drive just to drop off a protein skimmer :p . If we can make a trip out of it, maybe to visit/see something down south in Albuquerque as well, then we can work it out. I'll get back to you.

Thanks for the interest guys, I guess I'll just go down the list of people who are interested in order that you reply, until I find someone who's gonna take it.

Killingseed, I think I'm gonna stick with the ABQ guys, I'm pretty new in town and this is a decent way for me to meet some of the fellow fish-keepers in the area (as well as more convenient trade).

Dang looks like I came in on the end of this thread. I am interested as well.

As a side note I am planning a trip towards the end of this month to El Paso so if no one local can pick it up I wouldn't mind delivering it.

not for sell, just for trade :) its broken and needs a little fix, after all. I figured it's collecting dust at my place, and someone else could make good use out of it, maybe I could get a cool coral or something else in exchange!

well, not really, but I should mention that I recently moved, so my tank is re-settling in, and shouldn't house any really finnicky corals right now. Also, I have no experience keeping SPS, so I probably shouldn't take any hard-to-keep corals.

A cool LPS or softy or two would be fine, I mean really I'm not looking to necessarily "get my money's worth" out of the skimmer, just to let someone else use it who needs it, and to meet a fellow hobbiest in the area.

My tank's a 90 gallon reef ready + 30 gallon sump, with a CurrentUSA Outer Orbit Metal Halide + PC (actinic) light fixture (560W total), an AquaC EV-180 skimmer, a DIY carbon reactor, and a Coralife UV unit that I am currently not using. I've got two Koralia #4's in the display for circulation. I've got about 150 lbs of liverock, however I just replaced the sandbed entirely (2 weeks ago) during the move, though I did attempt to seed it with a little bit of the sand from my previous display.

We'll be putting a sump on the "eel tank" in the next couple of weeks so this is pretty good timing for me. I have lots of frags and fraggable stuff in my main reef tank...specifically:

Stuff that's ready to bag:
-Purple Digitata
-Finger Leather
-GSP
-Orange & purple ricordea
-Elkhorn
-Little tiny branch of Millepora

Stuff that can be broken/cut:
-Misc Green Acro
-Orange Monti Cap
-Green Monti Cap
-Green Trumpet LPS
-Green Sinulara
-Misc Zoos
-Xenia ;)

I'm kind'a mid-town, near Jefferson and I-25. Let me know!

Haven't checked into the reef Central lately but read this thread and was curious to know what home did the skimmer found?

I enjoy reading this thread so much. It was fun to see the frenzy that a broken skimmer created.
I have a PFO 175 medal halide balast and/or a wave controller that I bought from Swammy Rob for trade. Anyone interested? No cash. Just trade
both work fine
