Octopus Recirc Needlewheel 200 mod help

I had read about making the whole bigger where the pump pulls air so it performs better. I did and now I am in a world of trouble. The water level goes well above the collection cup and I am unsure what to do. I can't adjust the valve that it came with anymore than it already is. I am using a maxi jet 1200 for water supply. Any help would be appreciated.

I just turned the thing off hoping to get some help.

Did you put any tubing in the larger hole or is it just open. A picture would be worth a thousand words here. Did you happen to ask Harry at MS I think he has the same skimmer. I have a non-recirculating octopus and I'm not sure that the part where the hole is , is the same.

IT MAY HELP IF YOU LOWER THE EXHAUST PLUMBING SO THAT THE WATER LEVEL GOES DOWN DUE TO THE LOWER OVERFLOW OF THE RETURN. I'M NOT SURE IF IT WOULD HELP OR HOW MUCH TO LOWER IT.

I have called the octopus rep and they will be sending me a new set. Hopefully i don't make a mess of this one.
