Did the 1.5" coupler fit right over the black sliding riser or did you remove that?

no it didn't, I just sanded the inside down just a bit with a dremel and it fit with no cutting of the original gray riser tube, but I did take off the black one

Mr Bojangles, have you been able to adjust your water level to exactly what you want with the gate valve? Has it made it easier?

yes, it is easier IMO, you dont have to get your hands wet and you can fine tune the water level

Where are you guys finding gutter gaurd at? Are you buying it in a roll or as the strips. All i can find are the strips.

Thanks

Hello - I am still fighting with the Octo and having to pour water down the airline every 2-3 days, when I notice the water level is up inside the collection cup.

If the issue is with the narrowness of the airline all the way through the venturi and into the pump, has anybody rebuilt one using pvc fittings and bigger tubing? I don't see there being a lot going on here, but don't remember coming across a post where anybody did this and I really don't want to drill out the stock venturi if I don't have to.

Any advice is great, thank you!

JP, do you have a picture of your setup? Would be easier to troubleshoot if we can see it running. I can't imagine this is a tubing problem.

you got it Dan, thank you! - I think I am pretty straight forward. Gate valve mod and sitting in 9 inches of water, ATO keeps the water level constant. The only thing I never did was permanently attach the gate valve mod plumbing to the skimmer. I used a rubber boot and can easily move the water level up and down inside the skimmer with the valve so I haven't thought to attack that part.

When I see the water level is up inside the collection cup, I pour tank or RODI water into the airline, and it doesn't take but a few tries before you can hear it sucking like a freak and the water level goes way back down while the bubbles crank up.

any ideas? Could it be back pressure from the return being submerged? It takes about 2-3 days to develop.

Looks just like how mine is setup, I did drill a small hole in the riser and bent and put in a small rigid airline next to the riser so I had a sight tube for the water level but, thats the only differance. Are you using the short venturi? I also keep my airline in the little airline holder on the body facing upwards, when I remove the cup to clean every 2-3 days I never turn the pump off so water is overflowing and probably gets in the airline so maybe it is doing the same thing? I don't know I have never had to pour any additional water in my airline. Are you still mesh?

I got a question for the NW-110 users.

I recently acquired a tank, stand and NW110 skimmer for cheap.

I wanted to mod my NW-110 with the mesh mod but after seeing some guy post his mesh mod on his NW-110 with a 20"-24" neck I got discouraged.

Now my question is, if I do mod my NW110 am I going to have to add that 2ft neck extension to get good skimmate? If so, then I probably wont mod. I cant have that beast under my tank, b/c it will not fit.

The NW-110 uses the Octo-1000 pump.

=) I probably copied a lot from your earlier posts. I don't know what the short venturi is, but the airline is through the holder in the skimmer body. I swapped out a new airline, which I made longer than the original one.

I feel silly for complaining about this kind of production since late last night, when I emptied and set the water level, but here is what I have now:

Hopefully you can see the water level is inside the collection cup, just above the skimmate. I took the mesh off and run with only fishing line intertwined, until I get a new nw to tear apart. If I poured a cup of water down the airline, that water line would disappear and be pure bubbles all the way down.

Dandy - got a pic of the sight tube? That sounds like something that could help, since I have to stick my entire head in the stand to look down the standpipe.

thank you again,
jp

...lets try that again....

At least your getting skimmate! I've been running mine for 14days and haven't gotten a single drop of skimmate. My Via Aqua ebay special skimmer is looking real good right now seeing as it pulls at least 4 times more skimmate.

hey guys, where can one buy such gate valve and what size is it? i have 150 version of the skimmer and adjusting the stock slide pipe simply sucks. i checked all local plumbing stores and noone carries such...

thanks.
