Octopus skimmer

My skimmer performs less than adequately. The thing is only 7 or 8 months old and it has been over a month since it has produced any skimmate in the cup. I have to keep scraping the inside of the neck to get the goop out. I can't adjust it much more before it will just overflow into the cup. I removed the mesh mod thinking that it was clogged but it wasn't, so I removed the silencer on the air intake and the amount of bubbles slightly improved. So I don't think it is getting enough air. Does anyone else have the 200 recirc? are you having any problems like this? I have seen other skimmers where the water in the chamber looks like milk, mine looks more like sprite. As you can see in the picture the air tube is pretty long, will shortening it do anything?

I'd check the air intake nipple on the water intake area (volute I think it is called). Remove the hose carefully from it and check for a clog or any sort of junk there. I had some coraline buildup on mine and it caused an excess or air bubbkes returning into the tank.

I cleaned the thing and found a slight blockage. Took care of that and my bubbles returned to normal and I had to adjust the water lvl downward a bit.

Hope that helps...

I finally got the search function to work and found a thread about a gasket blocking the air intake hole. Hopefully that is the problem, I just added a tang and he is a pooper!
