Octopus

I think that I may have an octopus in my tank. My question is how to get it into a the open so I can confirm whether or not it is an octopus.

We are preparing a tank for our first octopus so I have 0 on experience. However, I have been looking for information while we prepare the tank and found an old Cousteau book. One of the recurring comments was their love for old pottery pots. I even considered using one to decorate the substrate. I have cataloged the thought as a possible method of "catching" my new critter should there be a reason to move him out of his tank and it might work well as a safe "trap" to find and catch one in your tank.
