Odd ? about splitting bubbletip

Certainly stress is one trigger for a division, but they will divide on their own for reasons unknown.

Thank you Scott. I just changed my lighting, and 3 days later it split for the first time ever, I'm worried it is stressed out but it hasn't gone into hiding. It moved up the back of my tank into a high flow area, then split after the 3rd day. It was eating normally through yesterday, I didn't try to feed it this morning because the halves are still trying to re-position themselves, and I think one of the halves is dividing again! Would you be worried if all water params are acceptable, and the only change was the lighting?

I always monitor such things with a bit of concern, but for reasons based on my clones:

-new divisions tend to wander quite a bit; powerheads, heaters, filters, other livestock, more changes in lighting, etc., cause concern.
- new divisions don't have the best facilities to eat for approximately 1 week, so hopefully they have the reserves to handle it.

A significant change in lighting, temps, pH, etc., are all potential triggers; as long as the system is still stable and within otherwise normal parameters, don't panic :) Make sure the above are addressed though ;>)

I really appreciate your advice. You are right about wandering. This morning before I left for work the new half had made it almost to the opposite end of the tank, and was still moving.

I took some shots about a month ago, before:

And After:

Sorry about the photo quality, I am not a photographer ;). I didn't get home early enough to get shots in 'daylight', so the after pic is actinics. It looks like a 3-way split, although the big one on the far right sure looked like it was wanting to split again this morning. The 2 large clones successfully took small pieces of food in last night, but the small one in the center only has the rim portion of the original mouth. This is my 1st split ever...Any comments or advice?

I wish I could give you some advice. I read somewhere that splitting is a good thing. Water changes causes them to split sometimes but that may because of stress that Scott mentioned. I wish my LTA would split. It is HUGE. Good luck!

Looking fairly typical at this stage. Keep them safe from abuse, try to feed them smaller portions more frequently at about the 7 day mark.

Be sure the clowns are not too abusive. What out for the opportunists in for the form of shrimp, crabs, fish, etc. Clowns wont always be there to defend them any more ;>)

Above all, start making list of locals to trade off the extras ;>)

Do you think I would have problems keeping one of the clones & adding an anemone shrimp to host in it? I always wanted one of these shrimp, but my female perc is so territorial I knew she would make its life miserable.

Possibly.

Better odds if there are quite a few anemones, but even with a group of 5+ my clown would feed the anemones any shrimp she could catch and crush.

Such behavior is quite varied.
