Odd crab ID...

Well, my bulletproof hitchhicker crab decided to come out for a photo.... his mid section is about 1" across... leg span of a couple inches...not hairy looking or anything... he molted the other day too... When i took out all my LR a couple weeks ago to scrub off some hair algae this guy (much smaller then) ran up my hand and onto my carpet... scared the living **** out of me... anyway... I got back to work and forgot about him... about 4 hours later while I'm watching tv, I see a crab go running across my carpet... I kind of felt bad for leaving him to run around my living room and threw him back in....He comes out fairly often and he is always eating algae / detrius... I've never even seen him near any corals...So what's the verdict?

Not sure what kind but I have always been told if they have blue eyes or hairy legs get them out.

I have something really similar. If you find out what kind it is let me know.

Mine has been in my reef for a year now and hasn't killed either of my fish (yet).
I have seen him tug on coral polyps. He will be moved to my sump soon.

I know a certain mantis shrimp that would love to make friends with that guy! He doesnt care the color or race he loves them all....lol

Cool looking crab. I have no idea what he is, but I know I'd keep him unless he proves to be a pest. Sounds like you've had him for awhile, though, with no problems.

He looks kinda like a sally lightfoot crab with different color

yeah, no trouble out of him yet... also forgot to mention that his mid section is pretty square shaped...I doubt i will catch him unless he proves to go after fish or something big like that... I've just got fast growing softies in the tank so I'm not really too worried about that...
