Odd looking tubes on my live rock

Hi. I have some new LR that has interesting clusters of tubes that resemble some sort of anenome. They are very small and golden brown in color. I was curious if anyone knew what these were and if I should leave them alone.

Sounds like he may be describing aiptasia.

pic would be useful... im thinking aiptasia, or possibly organ pipe coral.... could be a group of smaller tube worms.... deffinetely post some pics, or a link to some

I do not belive that they are aiptasia because I just killed off everyone that i could find. These grow it seems in a very tight colony of tube structures that are physicly stiff to the touch and break off if you press on them. They are very small in comparison to the aiptasia and I wish I had a camera handy! It's a crying shame.

feather dusters are great. i love them, they are pretty unique.. inside the tube is a worm, which extends its 'crown' to feed. i have a good sized one in my tank.. about the size of the palm of my hand. they filter the water for phytoplankton and what not. not harmful at all

yup I was gonna say hydroids, I let them grow in my tank for a couple years thinking they were some kind of feather dusters, now it's gonna be a pain pruning them all out. Weird thing is I didnt start seeing them until my tank was several years old and hadnt added anything in awhile, plus it had gone through a bad tank crash

speaking of which, this thread inspired me to go hydroid tweezing in my tank....much more of a hassle than I imagined. :mad2: I think I might take the rock out and use a lighter on the stragglers
