How common is this? Anyone seen it before?

I've seen it only a few times in the hobby, and only with one colony personally. I dont know if its because I never watched it closely enough (I'm away from my tank for a week or two at a time) but I've never seen them ever actually completely split. One I have is still "splitting" and has been since we got it a few years ago. I'll see if when I'm home this weekend I can snap some photos.

I've seen it a few times over the years, I'm sure if we inspected every single polyp in our tanks, we'd probably see it more often. I have no idea what causes it, maybe some sort of genetic issue as the polyps tries to grow/spread. Almost reminds me of an embryo that tries to split, creating twins, yet the seperation isn't complete, creating conjoined twins. It a wild strecth and totally a guess. Most likely a bad guess at that.
