wow! those are sweet. being they are a deep water anthias do you think they will do well? i've been thinking of getting a pair but i've heard they dont do well in tanks because they are brought up to the surface to quickly. but your are beautiful.

Absolutely gorgeous fish! Just a heads-up, in case you haven't noticed it yet: judging by the pics, where ever you purchased them from wasn't feeding them enough. Stomachs look pinched / concave. Hopefully they won't give you any problems and start feeding quickly.

i love them. i just got my first last night and will hopefully be getting more.

yours are much more pink than mine though.
i wonder if its diet or something else.

do yours stay out in the open? mine pretty much stays under overhangs. i'm wondering if its because of the bright lights since they are deep water and probably not used to the light

Mine have been out since I put them in. They have been through the entire tank. They ate mysis already, and I feed my fish quite heavily, and a very varied diet. Hopefully they will fatten up like the rest of my fish.

They look great! I'm sure that being anthias, the LFS probably just didn't have the time/resources to care for them properly.

My LFS had three of them and pictures don't do them justice. Seeing them in person really won me over. However they were asking $299 each. They were really active and were eating mysis. Since they are deep water, are these fish best kept at cooler temps or can they survive long term in a tank at 76 degrees?

Actually, I am the LFS.
Most wholesalers don't feed fish while they are holding them to sell. Fish eat...poop in bag during transport...cause ammonia in bag...fish dies. So the way around this seems to be not to feed the fish. They come to us (LFS) in less than perfect condition. Getting them to stay alive, then eat, and show good signs of health is a lot of work sometimes...especially with more sensitive species, but worth while in the end.
I can tell you that they are far less now than they were only a few months ago.
I fed them this morning, and again this evening, and both are hanging out together for most of the day, and both are eating like champs. I will probably hook up the auto fish feeder to feed a couple of more times per day when I get them over to accepting pellets. As of now, the only thing that seems to interest them is mysis.

I have one from a couple months ago.. mine is very shy to light.. even now it mostly hides in the rocks until feeding time or until the halides go out.. then it comes out swimming all night it seems, it seems to feel much more comfortable in the dark.

They get to be a decent size... mine is about 4-5 inches long..

The 2 I have are already about 3-3.5 inches. I was quite surprised by the sizes.
They are in a tank with a pair of Ventralis anthias. I have had the Ventralis for about 2 years now. Seeing the borbonius next to the vents was a little shocking.
