are the odyssea halides any good? I've never used HQI, but was wondering if 150watt HQI are as bright as 250watt moguls? Are the ballast any good?

I am thinking about purchasing one because the prices are very good.

thanks

bulbs/ballasts on the entire line are garbage, and the fixtures themselves are not well built. save your money and buy ANY other light rather than the Odyssea.

That site has a lot of information on lamp setups. In general, SE and DE bulbs are about equally efficient, but the whole setup, especially including the often-neglected reflector, are very important in determining the lighting efficiency. For a 120g tank, I'd go with 250 W MH fixtures. 150 W would be fine for many corals, though, but the higher-light animals will have fewer places that work for them in that size tank.

I've seen the Odyssea fixtures at a store, and wasn't impressed.

I have had mine for a few months now and love them. They are great though i would not use their stock hanging setup. I did and they hit the water while on. A little sizzle but i unplugged it, dried them for a night and back on they went. The were great because also they didnt shock the fish at all a small fuse, for which they provide a replacement, just burnt out.
