Odyssea T5 Quad Fixture

Greetings All,
First let me start off with saying I'm new to the hobby but can't get enough of it :)

My question is, I have a Odyssea quad t5 fixture with a timer that's a little less then a year old. The fixture has worked excellent until tonight when I went to turn it back on to fix a few things in my tank. I noticed the back two bulbs are not turning on. I switched the bulbs around thinking it was that with no luck. Does anyone have any helpful hints or ideas on what could be causing this?

Thanks!

Helpful Tip.

Throw it away and never buy from them again.

They are known to Start House Fires.

So unless you do not care about your house burning down I would just buy a new Fixture - Maybe Aquatic Life or Nova.

With their Cheap Prices they prey on Noobs that do not know any better.

There is a reason why they have to change their name every couple of years.

There reputation is the absolute worst in the Hobby.

If you do not believe me search Odyssea or Aqua Traders and you will find many posts about how bad their stuff really is.

That is if you still have an Aquarium that actually survived after your house burned down.

Oh please. Please point me to a thread where someones house burned down. Dont jump on the bandwagon just because its cool. Yeah I do know the history around these guys but have yet to see a "house burn down".

To the OP. I would still steer clear. Get a quality fixture with quality reflectors. Better to spend the money now than to buy twice.

Please read the many many Threads that back this up.

Hmmm. Once again show me a house burnt down. All I see is more threads with you stating "your house will burn down". Do you have any experience with them? Nope.

I've been around a while and know all about aaqua traders. I know they make cheap stuff, but the whole your house will burn down is completly fabricated.

+1 - this is a bunch of BS. I have a 4 bulb T5 Odyssea fixture for over 5 years with no issues at all. I also had a 2 bulb fixture. Never had any issues. Hype and parroting, that is all.

She's all fixed :) Took the ballast out of them along with the switch/timer. I ended up finding a lose wire on the switch/timer itself.

Guess you got very lucky.

Most people run into problems.

Please read the links that I posted above.

I hate seeing post's like this.

Haters gonna hate..

Yes these units are CHEAP. but so are the replacement parts.

Order a new Ballast from here: May as well order a spare while your at it, and extra bulbs too: Ballast is Only $19.00

Also only use their Bulbs, otherwise it will shorten the life of the ballast, or cause it to burn out.

These haters that spent $500+ on their lights feel the need to bash and scare everyone that buys an Odyssea light. Use the correct bulbs, with this unit, and expect to replace parts as it is a cheap light.

I have spare ballasts, moon lights, and bulbs on hand at all time.

Why buy a light when you have to change the parts? I started with a Odyssey light. The light was a piece of s**t. Second best change I made to my tank was upgrading to a better light. I bought an Aquaticlife fixture. I am amazed by the extra amount of light that my tank gets from the same bulb set.

I know its not a Kessil that is the mother and end all of lights in your eyes, but to make such a bold statement with zero experience with these lights is just trolling. Same thing you do with other off name brands.

Oh yeah use their Jank Bulbs too?

LOL.

If you are going to get them fine whatever your gamble.

But at least get some good ATI Bulbs or another German Made Bulb.

You will get better color and better PAR.

I happen to Prefer T5 over LED so I am not a Kessil FanBoy.

Zero Experience?

Sure I have Zero Experience you are correct.

But after reading all the abysmal reviews of this Terrible Company that has a F- Rating with the Better Business Bureau why on earth would I want to try them out?

Common Sense.

Even if you are Lucky and get a Fixture that does not Break Down you are much much better off getting a Legitimate Fixture (No you do not have to spend 500.00 like the other guy said) (AquaticLife Fixtures are good, well made and start at 110.00 - Far from 500.00).

Also, scrap any bulb you get with any fixture you buy (Get good German Bulbs like ATI) as you will have much nicer color and much better PAR which inturn will make your Corals look better and grow them faster.

Honestly their old fixtures were crap. Most if the new ones they have work great. Yes they are cheap and break easily, I mean you get what you pay for. But I have 3 fixtures going right now and I've had them all going for 2 years now and they work great.

Why buy these when you can buy evegrow/reefbreeders/reef radiance value fixtures for under $200...

Years ago I almost bought a MH/T5 oddysea fixture, for the price point alone being so cheap. But now, you are right, you can buy some great LED fixtures for equivalent price (I bought two reefbreeders), and I am glad I was patient and waited. Nothing against oddysea (friend had their fixture for years, worked great, til one day it didn't), I just didn't want the electric bill of MH's!
