Starting a 30g build. But I need a overflow box. I will be starting a 30 gal tank. W a 10 gal sump. Any help is def appreciated.

i got my tank from a friend and have no idea if its tempered or not, either way, ill have my overflow box. even if i need a new tank...:crazy1:

Usually only the bottom is tempered. There is one exception - that being the 55 gallon I believe from Marineland. You can usually go to the manufacturer's site & see which have tempered sides.

Drilled is preferable. You can check for tempered glass. Do a search and you'll see some tips for it. And when you do drill, be very careful! Go slow and let the drill grind out the whole, use a steady water source to prevent heat build up and place a towel or something below he whole to catch the cutout. Lots of tanks are scratched or broken when the cut glass falls through. Wear safety gear as well, you'll be cutting glass after all. Oh and don't zap yourself mixing water and electricity.

How long should it take to drill through? Minute or like 10 mins? I have drilled glass before, just not such a big hole

a few minutes probably. it all depends on how thick the glass is, rather than how large the hole is. oh and the quality of the hole saw

This has all been good advice, and I absolutely agree. However, if you don't want to drill your tank, you can install an exterior overflow box. Not all of these are created equal so if you should decide to go this route, don't buy without a little research. I have a LifeReef overflow and it never fails to restart after a power outage. lifereef.com

A 30 gallon should take you 5, maybe 10 minutes if you really take your time. I've drilled a bunch of tanks, and a 20 gallon tanks take me like 3 minutes usually. I like to use a V shaped piece of wood and run the bit in the bottom of the V. This acts as a nice guide and stops the bit from walking.

Well... It was in fact. Tempered. So I'm now in search of a non tempered tank. If anyone has one pref. about 30 gallon
