Off with their heads!

so i tested the cutting the heads of the paly fragging method and my results are as follows.

cutting too high results in high mortality rate on the head. the remaining body grows a new head in its place.

cutting too low = good chance for survival

So in other words if we are going to frag a polyp(s) of palys cut as low down on the stalk as we can.. right?

Not surprised by your findings- I think most of their "guts" are inside the polyp stalk and it works together with the head.

always wear gloves and eye protection when doing this :)

I tried this too, with the same results. I tried it with regular zoos, yellow polyps, and brown palys. Both would grow back if you cut it just above the base. Now we can frag zoos for friends and want have to loose any our self, .

I tried cutting one like a mushroom. I sliced it into 4 pieces but left it connected at the base. A week later it fused itself back together and almost 2 weeks after that it opened up. I was very surprised.

very interesting findings guys.. next time, pls document them with pics also so we can all see the progressions... :)

Thanks..
Marvin

After you clip their heads off, did you superglue that head to a plug?

I am wondering if the bottom part of the shaft needs time to heal or not.

i have pictures of the aftermath, but none before the chaos, i could post them later.

Basically i remember a thread on this forum asking for someone to test it.

The ones i snipped close to the head of the polyp, seem to be living and the stalks are already forming new heads. I think overall its a safe method of sharing what you have with others.

Keep in mind i do dose a large dose (capful) of iodine right after fraggin to avoid infections. ill post pictures soon
