Offer me some tank redesign tips

Well after much deliberation I’ve made the decision to redesign my current 60 gallon tank rather than get a whole new set up. The dimensions are 48x15x18. Here’s what I’m thinking:

- Ehiem 1260 on an OM 2 way squirt (Will this be enough flow to avoid using power heads?)

- Reef Keeper 2

- Sump/ Refugium combo (Would you go this route or forget the fuge?)

My main question is flow in the display. What would you do? Go smaller on the return pump and use some kind of wave maker?

Thanks,

Scott

Well on my 40 (36x15x18) I use a large sump only and a big skimmer, no refugium.
No powerheads in the main tank just a very strong return pump(QO 4000HH) for high turn-over rate and flow with-in the tank.
The spuirt would be cool, I almost did that on my new120 setup but instead when with a very high turn-over, big skimmer and a refugium.
JMO - Enjoy

Thanks, I actually have a QO 4000 on it right now. Its not as strong as the HH but it pushes a lot of water. I was thinking of reducing the return flow and just coming up with a way to make the return flow more effective. I was also planning on using lockline on the returns.

Should I go with the Ehiem 1262?

I like Eheim pumps. I have two 3/4" bulkheads with a pair of "Y" 3/4" Loc-Line as the return. I use 1' line for the return I think my flow is good. At 50 watts for the pump I'm happy with that. I think the eheim is at 80 watts maybe??? With 5 tank setups elect. is a big concern of mind.

i have the same type of acylic tank. I drilled two more holes in the front for the OM super squirt. this gives a little more colliding flow. I have a fuge/sump combo. My overflow is directed in two areas. I have a fuge that has water being controlled with a ball valve and the other pipe goes to my sump area on full blast. And for a little more current, I have a QO4000 going through to my chiller in a closed loop type fashion.
