Official: Masterflex Calcium Reactor Setup Thread

It took a year because it was broken or because he wasn't sure what components to use with it? I don't have any experience with them but have heard good things.

Official: Masterflex Calcium Reactor Setup Thread

I'm looking at a cp unit that runs 10-600 rpm. However, I did noticed in the beginning to get one that runs 6-600. Have you needed to run under 10 rpm in any circumstance?

Just a heads up anyone trying to source a 77201-60 head brand new in box.. there is one for $100 bucks on ebay.

Looking at 2 stage regulators and was wondering if a Harris® Model 9296-15-320 would work with the AP black box and can... Can someone confirm? Thanks in advance!

I don't see why it wouldn't. Nice find, much better price than the other one I had been recommending! Let us know how it works for you if you go with it.

Same here. Learned a lot and almost ready to take the plunge and use my Masterflex 7550-60. Is it safe to keep inside the stand? There is a fan inside that is on half of the time. Stand is well ventilated.

I think as long as its ventilated and as long as your pump has stainless rollers you should be fine. Most pump attachments seem like they use stainless steel hardware.

Thanks guys I appreciate it :). I have learned quite a bit myself. I am just so happy to see the setup take off and people embracing it. Some of the reactors we have fixed in this thread went from expensive paper weight headaches to consistent equipment overnight.

I would be cautious putting the pump into the sump stand. Everything that can rust inside a stand typically does and while these pumps are made at the highest quality level I feel the internal parts were not expecting saltwater. I seriously doubt they designed these to take our abuse. We dish it.

Can you mount the pump to the back of the stand or on top of the canopy out of sight?

This thread without a doubt saved me from switching over to a dosing pump from my calcium reactor. I never could get my calcium reactor to stay adjusted until I switched to this method. It is not the cheapest initially but it is definitely the best, and I think in the long run it will pay for itself!

It's been a while since I stopped by this thread, cool to see that it's still going strong.

I went for a while not needing my calcium reactor (was keeping everything inline with watercnages pretty much), I had the aquarium plants reg off (and tank closed), but the peristaltic and recirculating pump were still going.

I turned the reg and gas back on a couple days ago. I was running 35mL/sec, changed it to 40mL/sec today with a bubble count of 1/10secs or 6BPM (wanted to start off pretty low because I don't need much).

So, I was just looking at my skimmer and heard bubbles running through the Ca reactor. Any idea why this is happening?

Fwiw it's a GEO612

Looks like it's trying to be a skimmer :)

I would bet you have a loose fitting or cracked line and the pump is sucking air.

Kinda looks like what I'm experiencing with mine

Damn, I already have a skimmer ;)

From inspection the fittings look okay. Tough to see if there's a cracked line. Do you mean the plastic on the recirculating pump?

Fwiw it's a GEO612

GEO 818 calcium reactor with masterflex digital feed pump and ap carbondoser reg. I have experienced the same issue, and the issue is the ARM Coarse media you have in the reactor. You should switch out the top half of the media with some ARM regular media (much finer), or plumb a single pass second reactor after the GEO with ARM regular. I did the second reactor and it solved my issue.

I think the problem is the coarse or extra coarse media allows the co2 to circulate too freely within the reactor, and it forms large bubbles and circulates too freely. GEO recommends coarse media, but finer media allows you a more controllable pH within the reactor, and has a higher total surface area.

Furthermore, this started happening when the gas was turned on. I had with the gas off for a little while and this didn't happen.

Fwiw I'm using TLF Reborn media. That being said it is "coarse".

I only have the reactor half full atm, do you think it would get better if I filled it all the way? Or is a different, smaller media the only option. I spent a pretty penny on this setup and if I need to add more to it I'd rather sell it and get a different reactor.

What does GEO say on the issue, since it seems to be more common than just you it should be something their customer service can help you address.
