Green Gongorian? And what are these white stalks. They are growing like gangbusters.

Is this a brain coral?

I found the crab. He was about quarter size, but dead. I'm going to have to pull another purple sponge, they just don't seem to do well.

On the plus side, ammonia is down to .5ppm.

also I forget which colors but a percent of the male population is color blind to a few colors .... ask an eye Dr. about that.
6% of males / 0.6% of females. (Sneaking up on 30yrs as an OD now)

Ogre, the green looks like new growth caulpera, one of the macroalgaes; it's great for your tank. I'd ask Richard about the white ones...I know there aren't any on my rock. They kind of look like anemones though.

Ammonia hasn't gone above .25ppm in 48 hours.

I think this one has almost finished its cycle. I've got about 10 snails all happy as... ahem... clams.

I think a pair of the green nassarius snails were mating... either that or they found something really good to chew on.

Richard, I'm going out of town for 5 days starting next Thursday. We''l have to wait until after that for anything else.

Can I go ahead and drop from filter feeder food in the tank starting the next few days? I don't want everything to die from starvation now that everything has survived the cycle.

Gald to hear that...kinda night and day from the last experience you had....

I am outa here also.....going to Copper Canyon.....for a 15 days...so timing will work for both of us...

I would not worry about feeding the tank while you are gone, just let them feast before you leave...is the best idea..

sea ya

Nope.

I have another one... a bright yellow worm with a white stripe and what appears to be hooks around it's mouth.

EWW! Sounds predatory. Is it flat? or round and segmented? I found this flatworm from phylum Platyhelminthes last night in my refugium.

The white stalks are still a mystery. I will try to find out this weekend and post answer here.

I'm getting several more anemones on my Part 1 now, and I also have noticed several of those white stalks as well now. Could they be the start of Gorgonian colonies?

Wolf, that's not the first time I've heard gorgonian colony. I'm not pulling them as they seem to be growing. We'll see.

Several crabs have started coming out. I killed one gorilla, but the rest look like Mithrix. Still getting the popping. The fact that I haven't seen anything still leads me to believe I've got pistol shrimp rather than mantis. That may just be a hope though.

Ammonia is now less than .25ppm for two days and getting lower. Things are looking good.

With Richard and I both taking vacation, the rest of the rock will have to wait until mid August... sigh.

The popping is probably not a pistol Ogre, most likely its a mantis. With mine the popping is coming from them burrowing through the rock. If you want to try to see, put a small piece of shrimp on the sand near which ever rock the popping seems to be coming from and sit back. If its a mantis, or a pistol, you'll generally see them within 5 min when they come to investigate the smell of good home cookin'. ;)

We've got snail eggs. One of the big ceriths laid two strings of eggs, each about 5 inches long.

Ammonia is zero.

I thought you were leaving for vacation?

That's awesome about the cerith snail eggs. Those are such pretty snails.

Yay, Ogre! It really sounds like v2.0 is working out great! I always take eggs and such to be good signs of tank health, but being a noob, what do I know? ;)

I have a rock full of the mysterious "white stalks" now as well. I'm just leaving them be and hoping they'll show us what they really are soon.

Congrats on things going so well and get us some pics as soon as you have time! :D
