OH NO! New clown has brook.

My new GSM appears to have Brook. White film appeared on left side of body by dorsal. To make matters worse, he is in QT with my other fish. Guess my original female and shipment stressed him out.

I thought I had formalin, but don't. What about Rid-Ich+ ? I do have that. Do I treat entire QT even though other fish appear OK, or just give him a bath.

Just a bath for 4-5 days, it worked for me, at least my fish is still alive...

He is going to love that. Kordon, Rid-Ich Plus back label says "very 5ml of this product contains 0.05mg/l malachite green and 15mg/l of formalin and treats 10g of water."

I gave him a bath in it while waiting. He wasn't happy. He was in a small bucket with a little water and 2drops of rid-ich+ for 15 minutes. But I'll give him a bath for several days.

If your clown does have Brook, then Rid Ich will not cure it. Straight formalin is the ONLY thing that will cure it - and it must be done immediately. If you do any other treatment, then your fish will die. Unlike Ich, fish cannot fight off Brook. It is 100% fatal without immediate formalin treatment.

Good luck

Well he appeared to be worse last night. Since no LFS was open last night I upped the dosage for Rid+Ich+, hoping it would help him until I could get Formalin.

During lunch today, I picked up Formalin 3 by Koradon, from the LFS. From Kordon's website, it looks like it will take 10tsp/gal to reach 1000ppm I hope this works. But this 4oz bottle will only treat 2.4 baths.

If this cures the fish, what keeps it from getting the disease again from the QT water?

From what I have researched, once cured from Brook, they are immune to it.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm mis-informed.

Good Luck

Brook does not mess around. This is why I posted about the urgency of treatment. If you wait too long, any treatment will be futile.

Good Luck.

I know. I should have picked it up Saturday when I saw it at the LFS. They were closed Sunday and Monday. I'll keep some on hand from now on.
The female did well in the bath.
