Or is it a Green Sinularia? No matter. Been home during the day for the last 2 weeks. Noticed it closing up during the day just about time for MH on. . I thought it was due to MH being on for 3 hrs in afternoon. So my MH has been off for last 4 days. Still closes up and then never really fully extends. Tonight I just noticed there's an oily something something on it. Actually looks wet in some areas. Da it is wet! Very strange. When you touch it it doesn't feel oily tho and it wipes off.
Oh and I do know the test to determine exactly what it is. Cut a sliver add bleach...etc. Thanks tho!

I say sinularia. Leathers puff up and shrink, and i say its in its shrink mode. Also I see them secrete a waxy layer and shed, so that might be what you are feeling. When you touch them too much (especially outside the water) they slime massively wet and stink too. :)

Definitely a sinularia. I would put your MH back on a regular schedule. Sometimes leathers close up for a couple of days and "shed" their exterior layer of skin.. I would give it slightly more flow than normal, and you will usually see the mucous come off and then it should open back up within a week. As long as your water parameters are normal, I wouldn't worry about it.

and I think your right sir. Started sloughing brown today. Its gone thru all this before but the oil caught me off guard. Never done that before. Thanks for the help guys. Singularia huh... why say you?

It is always hard to ID corals, but due to the branching structure, color and the appearance when closed I could tell it was a sinularia.

I am not exactly sure why leather corals will go through this shedding, but I have an inclination to believe they do it as a maintenance to prevent infection..

Looked again last night. Same oily stuff. It has probably always oiled up but I just never noticed...
Thanks All :wavehand:
