Guys,

I have a 95 gallon tank w/ 150lbs of Live Rock. My aquascape is very nice. A lot of caves, etc. I just added:

1 yellow tang
4 green chromis
30 snails
15 hermits
1 algae blenny

1 day later seems that 1 of the chromis did not make it. He is not w/ the school of other guys. I have a feeling he died. If so, Do I need to look for him in the tank. I have no idea where he could be and I dont want to move the rocks.

What happens to the tank, What can I do.

Thanks

did you add that in all at once?
because that is CRAZY fast stocking!!
slow down

and yes, retreive the dead body!

No. You're all right. A tank should be able to take care of any one of its fish that dies, or you've had a fish too big for the tank. He'll be gone in 24 hours, bones and all. A 'hot' biochemistry just recycles everything, and he'll be part of the biocycle for months.

Chromis are notorious for doing in spare school members, and they're said to favor odd-numbered schools. I wouldn't try to replace him. The other three will get along with no grief at all.

I do agree if they all went in at once, that's a heavy hit on the tank's ability to cope. The school of chromides had to go in together, yes, and I'm sure the snails and hermits were already there, but feed extremely lightly for the next three days, only one mouthful per fish, period. They'll act pitiful, but they'll be fine.

i figure your hermits will get him if he died. they should eat the body and take care of the problem.. BUT make sure you take someone else advice to because i dont know as much as most of these people being fairly new to this myself

The hermits will take care of it if he is still in the tank. You might want to make sure to check the filter and also the floor around the tank.
That really is a lot to add at once. It's usually a good idea to add the cleaning crew first and let them do their thing for a bit before you gradually start to add fish. Yellow tangs can be a bit aggressive sometimes. Depending on what other fish you you are putting in, he should probably be the last one added to the tank to avoid a territory dispute.

the only problem with waiting for scavengers to eat the carcase is that your ammonia levels will already be affected.
if any creature dies, take it out immediately!!

I put in 2 packages of Biospera 2 days prior to adding the fish and They told me I should have had no problem. I did the drip acclimation. It is a 95 gallon tank though. Still have plenty to stock.

That lil fish will cause ammonia to rise in a 95 gallon tank w/ 20 gallon sump?

No probably not. And like said earlier that many hermits will clean that little thing up pretty quick.
