I want to drill a hole in thecside of my 29 gl tank to connect my sumps together but I can't find any glass diamond drill bits over a half of a inch and I can't find any bulk heads under 3/4 of an inch yhat dosent make any since

Do I just have to get it professionally done??

Or do they sell a bigger glass drill bot somewhere

Look up diamond core hole saws, as opposed to drill bits ;) Also buy your bulkheads and find out what size hole the bulkhead needs before buying the hole saw. A 1 inch bulkhead will need a hole larger than 1 inch for example.

I tried lookin for a wholesaw bit but the smallest they make those is 1 and 1/25 in and the store sad it was for fiber glass

how do people usually go about drilling out small tanks??

I know it can't seem or be as hard as it has been for me so far

id like to do it myself

and nobody seems to know where to get bulkheads either

can I get them on the internet???

hey that's a great idea practicing on scrap glass

I will do that and I'm about to look at the link you gave now thank you guys so much I hope it works

ok so what I have in mind is ordering 3 or 4 bulk heads from them 2 of the bkf10 and then have my local glass company drill my tank for me

If the bulk head is a 1 in bulk head what size do I need to have them cut the hole out of both of my 29 gallons

Just wondering sorry if its a stupid question

There are slight differences in size depending on which 1 inch bulkhead, i.e. top quality vs. economy. Since your going to get the glass shop to drill the holes, get the bulkheads first and then bring them the bulkhead along with the tank. This way the glass guy will be able to match up the right size hole saw to the actual bulkhead you will be installing.

BTW if you click on the "Click here for more pictures" link it pops up a diagram of the bulkheads listed on the page with the measurements of the bulkhead. The "D" measurement is the hole size needed for the bulkhead. In the case of the bkf10 a 1 5/8 inch hole is needed.

Hey thanks alot now I'm off in the rightbdirection man

I think I can do it now thanks to those helpful links

I don't understand there pricing on that site though it said that the bulk head I want is like 5.86 of something like that but directly under it it days + 10 and 4.86 what the heck does that mean

Oh well it don't matter I'm about to call and talk to them any way thank you so very much

ok sorry I got 1 more question

I am wondering if I get 1 hole cut in each of my 29 gl tanks to connect the two tanks of the 1 in bulk head connects is gonna be enough to keep my levels even or would two holes in each sump be better.

Does it matter. Or would the one connection be enough??

Thanks ahead of time

The pricing question is the discount for purchasing in quantity of over 10 ;)

I"m not sure I'm following your last question. Are you looking to run two tanks off of one sump?

oh ok cool I got it now as far as the pricing question thanks, nowcas far as the sump question what I'm saying is I have a 125 gallons tank I'm running 2 29 gallon sumps under and I just found out the hard way that no two pumps will push the same amount of water back in the tank no matter what so 1 side will either be filling up slowly but surely with water and the other slightly dropping

So I was stern toward combining my sumps into 1

Now I'm just wondering if two holes are better than 1 in each tank for example as long as there together with a 1 inch bulk head fitting will they be ok or would 2 holes be better??? For more of the balance of the water???

Thanks

Ok, got it now. So your looking at connecting the two 29's so that function as one sump. I would use two holes, this way if one gets a clump of algae or something else plugging it you will have a back up ;) It's always good to have redundancy in case of failure when it comes to drains. Keeps the floor drier :D

LOL keeps the floor drier huh LOL thats funny but true I hope

That means more money dang it

Oh well I'm here now getting the b heads

Done know when I'm gonna get drilled
