After a previous thread where I received some good advice, I have come up with a few different fish ideas, and wanted to run it by everyone to see what they think.

I have a 50 gallon reef 3x18x18

My list:

flame angel
black oc clown
splendid psuedochromis
Red Fin Fairy Wrasse OR Clown Fairy Wrasse
green chromis (already have)
tangaroa goby (already have) initially thought I had a diamond goby. My mistake.

What do you all think about this list? I think it is a nice colorfull bunch. I think these are all peaceful reef safe fish that will get a long. Are any of these really hard to keep alive in captivity? Hardiness? etc?

My filter system so far is about 40 pounds of LR, 65 lbs of live sand, and a remora skimmer. Tomorrow I will be removing the remora and trying out a HOB refugium with built in skimmer.

What is good to keep in the refugium? So far I'm planning on about 10 lbs of tonga rubble and some chaeto.

thanks everyone. Keep the good advice coming =)

While I don't like keeping any kind of damsel in a tank, if your Chromis behaves then, I guess it's all right. The other fish listed would be fine, though I personally like some of the more colorful clowns if you're looking to brighten up the tank. The only other fish that might pose any downside is the flame angel...I know..I know...you really want one...Who doesn't? But the fact is that like other angels, they can turn out to be a threat to certain coral like zoanthids and open brains. If you look further in these forums you'll see that there are some who do have no problem with Flames but there are more that do so it is a gamble.

You should be fine with the choices you've made for you refugium.

Yeah I think flame angels are a little questionably myself. But I don't think I will be keeping any brains or zoathids. As for corals, I'm gonna start slow and easy and get some mushrooms and star polps. I just want a flame angel bad =). As for the black OC clown, I figure I'd already ahve a flame and a red fin fairy wrasse, so that would be enough red-ish orange colored fish. Well, that and I like the black clown.

Anyone else have any advice? Comments on hardiness/compatability?

Thanks

I agree on the flame angel...iffy. I have green chromis (3) in my 29g. They behave beautifully with my clowns. The chromis are far less agressive than other damsels IMO.

I have a solitary blue chromis that's a perfect citizen in a 54g. The wrasse can be a problem...not with size, but with aggression, with a goby who's smaller than he is. I had a wrasse responsible for the demise of a Court Jester goby, a highfin goby, and a red firefish. The firefish he bullied into jumping. The rest he picked at. He finally left for the lfs: a red filamented fairy wrasse. I've heard that the flasher wrasses [Carpenters are beautiful] are better behaved.

Good call on the flasher wrasses. They are beautiful fish. Yeah a friend of mine just got a 6 line wrasse and that guy is a freakin terror. If the flashers are better behaved they would be a nice choice. I also like the McCosker's Flasher Wrasse as well as the Carpenters.

you might have a problem with that dottyback and the fairy wrasses they don't get along to well and in a tank that size i am pretty sure you will have some problems with the two. The red fin fairy is one of the more aggresive fairy warsses..i had to trade mine back in because of how mean he was..so just something to keep in mind.
