Ok so I can't afford a reactor.

Just thought I'd share my experience with my DIY carbon reactor.

I know some reactors are relatively cheap, but my 10 week old boy could do with some savings for when he grows up.

It cost me nothing to make. Here's some pics. I know it looks rough but it works. My waters crystal clear.

Just an old plastic bottle, with some 3mm holes drilled through the bottom and spliced near the lid to fit my 1'' return pipe into my sump. [emoji4]

You need to check out the ghetto rig thread. :) And that could become an over flow disaster if there is a clogging event. I have placed gfo and carbon in a filter sock. Less thance of a total blockage and overflow.

Cheers for the info Mrs. Music I'll check that out. And I didn't think of overflow! [emoji30]

You could always tee the return so you still have a clear 1" shot. Only 1/2 or 1/3 of the water would probably go thru the reactor, but heck, most reactors only have a fraction of their sump turnover going thru them anyway. Great idea, though. I'll be rigging one up for my GFO this weekend.
