Well its been about 6 months since I lost Ultra grade crocea to the snail. I still have them in my tank and in quite large numbers. I have tried removing them with a siphon. I am now up to two six-line wrasses. Seems like the numbers are going down...But will I ever be able to have another clam?

Thanks
Scott

Thats what I thought...But yet there they are. The only good snails that I have are stomatella and nassarius. I will have to pratice my night shots because they are only "really" active after the actinics go off.

From what I have read theres not to much published on getting rid of them. Anthony Calfo says that once you have theres little you can do to get rid of them.

They may be a relative of Stomatells they are a nocturnal snail. Do they look anty thing like a sundial?

this is what Pyrams look like

you may not have pyrams at all because of a lack of host (or at least not a species that feeds on mollusks).

you can definitely get rid of pyrams but its very time consuming. let figure out what you have and if you even need to worry about them

The pyrams that feed on trochus snails are different then the pyrams the feed on stars are different then the pyrams that feed on astrea snails are different then the species that feed on tridacnid clams. They don't redily hop species, and they certianly won't last forever without a clam.

I have some sm snails like thta in my 29 and they only come out at night and they are all over the bottom 3rd of the glass. Do ya think that these are harmful?

My snails are not like those. Mine are small but have a more round body. I am pretty sure there not sundials.

I know that I had the cone shaped snails before. I assumed since they were both the same size the snails I have now are the same thing. Maybe not?

Well good maybe I can fianlly get that dersa that I have been wanting.

Mine are fine. No aggression at all between the two. Scott W Micheal says that there isn't a problem with keeping multiples in a large tank.

my tank is full of the round sundial like snails (about the size of a pin head). I was told they are harmless. pyrams get their name from the shell shape.

Well I have had my Dersa for 2 weeks now and so far so good. How long should I wait before I add another clam? The LFS has a great looking ORA Squamosa for a really good price. Not to mention a Crocea that I like too. I want to make sure that my tank is sutiable for clams again before I get too many of them. My water is perfect but then agin it was perfect when I lost my priced Crocea.

Scott

I think that those are them. The part about them coming out at night makes me pretty sure about that.

Thanks
Scott

Those should be reefsafe but not sure about clam. I used to have thousand of them in my 100G. They covered the rock and the glass at night.

I have a lot of similar looking snails as these but they hang out in the sand/glass and only come out at night. I have never seen them on my clams. Hope it stays that way
