Ok so I'm not even sure how this worked lol

Not used to talking about my screw ups but here it goes. I had my RO/DI hooked up wrong. Had the waste lines and RO water lines switched. Really had to laugh at myself even though it's not really that funny. It cost me a lot for a new set of filters because it's a duel 150 GPD membrane and duel DI system. I didn't think it would even work hooked up this way but it did 0 TDS for about three months now. I have a duel TDS meter and was only been checking the DI side up till about a week ago and noticed the TDS was starting creep up. I knew it wasn't time for new filters or DI resin. Switched the meter over to the membrane side and wow 35 TDS. So I hooked the inline TDS meter to the out put of the other membrane and low and be hold 35 TDS out of both. Ok so I have to replace both maybe it was a bad batch and they went bad early. Yesterday I get the filters and get looking at things and figure ok so I'll double check the pressure the hookup etc and I'm not really sure why but I did and that's when I found it. I figure it happened when I hooked up the second membrane. What an idiot I am.

Good thing you have clean tap water to begin with! I'm happy you caught that in time, over a course of months that would have started to not fair to well for your tank. We all learn from our mistakes!

don't feel bad, Dave....

don't feel bad, Dave....

I think I did the same thing 17 years ago.
Thank goodness we learn from mistakes!

good find :)

curious to what unit u have and ur thoughts on it as i am looking to upgrade ours to a 150gpd too,

Yes it is a good thing we do lol.

I bought an econo brand. If you are thinking of upgrading to a 150 GPD the RO housings are the same size for all membranes 75, 100, and 150 the only difference is the flow restrictor on the waste line. So the only things you need to upgrade are the flow restrictor and 150 GPD membrane. When you get ready to upgrade let me know I have an extra flow restrictor just sitting around I could mail it to you. Then all you would need is the membrane.

So I checked to see when I bought the filters and membrane upgrade and it turns out it was last August. Where did the time go? So at this point I’m thinking I’ve been making bad RO water for quite some time for water changes and top off so no wonder I started getting some algae and cyno. Lesson learned and I’m writing down today’s date for filter and possibility DI and RO membrane replacement.

The other issue with 150 gpd membranes is that they are spec'ed at higher pressures. Here's some info re our membranes:
