OK to mount 6000 pump on top of bracket?

Hi Roger

I just set- up 2 6000 Streamer pumps with a mult-controller. I am using the Tunze's magnets to hold each pump. My question is , my tank has been set up for approx. 15 years, so I do not want to move the corals/rockwork around. Some of my corals have attached itself to the glass wall. I need to have the pumps as close to the surface as possible, otherwise the pumps are forcing its currents directly into some of the corals. Can I place the pumps on top of the mounting brackets, instead of under the mounting brackets? This give me the additional height I need. I did notice that if I did put the pump on top of the bracket, the pumps are not locked into position. If it can be done, do you have a bracket where I can mount the pump on top and it will lock in the pump from moving? Thanks:)

You would have to finnagle some way to hold them together, it should be possible but we don't offer anything to do that, the biggest problem is you usually have to be at least 3" from the surface or the pumps suck in air.

Thanks Roger for you quick response. 3" from the surface will not be a problem. My problem would be keeping the pumps from moving side to side. I was thinking using a nylon bolt, washers and nut, putting it thru the pivot and tightening it down to keep it from moving. Any opinion on this?

But you can put them that close to the top without doing that? Just slide the post up the rail?

Thanks for trying to come up with a solution to my problem. Anyway to attach the rail to the magnet so I can slide the post up?

If I mount the pump under the bracket(the correct way) and bring the magnet all the way to the top of the tank, the pump will still be too low. The stream of water will hit my corals and prevent the flow to the other end of the tank. With the pump on top of the bracket, there is not problem except the pump can move.

Hi Roger,

Just a quick question, I was just on the Tunze'website in the spare part section and noticed a part # 6200.236; Sliding piece with hinge and screw. Is this the same part as Sliding Piece with hinge(part # 6080.230) use on the magnet holder for the Streams pump? Do you think this may work for my problem? I maybe able to place a nylon washer and tighten down the screw to keep the pump from moving side by side. If so, where can I purchase these parts? Can I purchase them from you?
Thanks

That is the post piece for a 6200, it may work, but I don't have any on hand. You could also just tap thread in the post you have or run a screw through it to a nut on the other side.
