I've been doing this long enough, I should know... but I've never noticed these guys, (no pic yet..) but they're little white balls that come out only at night. I know there's a ton in my overflow too, but I just noticed while flashlight gazing, that there are HUNDREDS all over my tank. I mean, so many it almost looks like it's wrong. What are these little buggers?

im guessing your talking about pods. copepods and amphipods are both extremely helpfull members in a healthy reef tank. they look like teeny tiny whiteish clear ants almost. not only do they consume excess waste and phyto, they also make a great source of food for many fish and often corals.

No, these are different. (I think( They're white "ball" looking things, and they don't move around much.

I'll try to post a pic soon.

being that they only come out at night, and they actually move leans me to Collonista snails. when they are babies its very difficult to see their markings. pull one out and see if it is in fact a snail. if they are Collonista snails, they are good to have! and they stay small. the largest one i have is about 1/8". the biggest i have herd of way only 1/4"

heres some info and pics of them, about 3/4 down.

Not floating or swimming, only on the rock. Some on the back of the glass, but not really on the front or sides.

I did Paintbug, thanks. I'm going to pull one out this weekend and check it out.

hmm interesting I have white things growing in my refugium also.. I think they may be pods but I will see.

Also Can you get a picture of them for us too compare.

Paintbug, you were right!

Looked this morning, they're definitely snails! Kinda cool when I got up close enough to seem 'em.

Okay, I feel good now, I have a heck of a cleaning crew at night, that's for sure.
