HI there.

Okay i need to make a iodine solution for my corals. I have a frogspawn which is VERY bleached and about a 3 week old torch coral which is now expelling Zooanthelle. But the lugols plus iodine that i picked up to dip them in only has instructions for adding to the sump. Here is what the bottle says.

For moderately stocked aquariums add 2 drops per 25 gallons of true water volume once a week to sump.

Thats all it says. I really have dealt with the fact that the frogspawn is probably a gonner but would really like to save the torch coral.

Thanks
Lisa

My bottle says 40 drops in a gallon of aquarium water and put coral in it for 15 to 20 minutes.

Okay thanks. So i am assuming that iodine solution is iodine solution? And it really doesn't matter? Or am i taking a chance?

Thanks
Lisa

it won't help for a bleached coral...it gets rid of parasites doesn't it? it's good if you use it to stop brown jelly...bleached is a lighting issue...what are your water params?

Iodine serves 2 primary purposes (more by some opinions)

#1 It is a "Vitamin" (mineral ect.) used for healthy coral growth and uptake of other vital minerals, in many corals.

#2 Usually, as a dip it is more of an antiseptic... I use it as a dip anytime that I cut or frag a colony to prevent infection and cross contamination. I just put 3-4 drops in the bowl of water that the frag is going to be placed in after cutting (Throw this water away when done... do not add to tank)

Do not add things to your tank that you are not testing for.

Hope this helped some
