Old story regarding ich question

So like 3 months ago I had an angel and a purple tang.

they both got ich and I did put them into QT.

They did not live.

So now 3 months foward and I have never seen ich on any of my fish.

So I am confused about the outbreak unless it was introducced by the purple tang.

My tank should be safe yes since nothing happened for 3 months?

Ich does not lay dormant does it?

Safe? Not necessarily. The ich could still be in the gills of the fish or in such small numbers that it may not be making a noticeble comeback yet.

In all the research I have done Tangs are notorious Ich magnets. Your tank might not be safe cause it could be dormant in the other fish. Some succumb to it and others are carriers. I would qt EVERY single fish you get. Just as a precaution plus if you do get a fish that has it you can treat it in QT. I would take your other fish out of the DT and put them in qt and do some kind of treatment just as a precaution. Let your DT sit fallow (empty) for about 8wks just to make sure that its not in your DT. You can do hyposalinity or copper. There are a lot of fish that dont do well with copper and some that dont do well with hyposalinity. You need to research which ones do better with those 2 methods. There is a forum that is labeled Fish diseases that has a lot of info in it about Ich. Go look at that forum before you add new fish in the DT. Good luck.

Not long enough. The spores will die with no host in about 11 weeks but there may be some still in the gills of your fish like Freed says. Promising though.
