I have the older 6105 (black impeller) and was wondering what I can do to make it quieter? I have the magnets with the blue pads. Will the blue impeller help? Can I add the attenuation disk to the black prop?

A new drive unit would help especially if the propeller has some wear and is out of balance. You could add just the 3005.740 disk, however, when we changed the disk, we changed to a pure titanium shaft, the older 316ti shaft tends to corrode where covered as the protective ions cannot flow under the covering, for this reason it would be best to change the full unit. The disk only addresses the noise issue of clicking on start up, a noise when spinning is more likely a bent shaft or out of balance propeller.

Thanks Roger. Another question, what is the life expectancy of the 6100 magnets? I had one split open on me and I didn't notice it for awhile.(not good for the tank)

They have no set lifespan, if they are dropped or anything breaches the polyurethane potting over the magnet and water reaches the magnets or steel plates they need to be replaced. Theoretically they should last indefinitely, but heat, cracks, even small bubbles in the resin can lead to failure over time.
