Oldest animal EVER found

Well they found a clam that was the oldest animal ever and in order to verify its age they KILLED it cut it and counted the lines on the shell. Kind of ironic isn't it? The clam lived 405 years before we found it and ended its life. Guess they didn't know it was that old before cutting it.

Here's one of the stories I found about it. It's from the UK but sums it up well.

The headline, "Oldest Animal Ever" is a bit misleading. It's the oldest one found in a group of about 3000.

So if I killed it, ate it, and did not count the rings, would that be OK? I need some butter.

It would be perfectly fine with me if you ate it. I guess the irony was lost on you then. I really don't care if they killed the clam or not (how many thousands do we eat yearly)

The funny thing is that they reported it as the oldest animal ever found and then reported that they killed it to verify the age. Like , Ummm next year it could've been 406 right?

Some people don't have a since of humor

wow that looks old let's kill it and find out how old it is

that's tragic arrogance.
Couldn't they have figured out another way to date the thing? wow. that's pretzel logic. it's not like 400 year old clams grow on...scratch that...you know what I mean.

Quickly proof reading, it seems that it was already dead before the dating was done. Probably got home sick.

"Unfortunately, by the time its true age had been established Ming was already dead. "

Even with lemon, butter or hot sauce...it still would not be very tasty.
