Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

For your tank I would think that dosing 2 part would be very expensive. Can you describe your dosing methods and materials you use.

Is using prodibio expensive on your tank? Do you use carbon or group reactors too?
There is very little that you can do in a 600+ gallon system that isn't expensive.
I dose high quality Ca & Mag using Randy's 2 part recipe and baking soda.
Prodibio isn't cheap but it's worth it so far. Yes I run carbon to polish the water and remove toxins.

Isn't there some sort of law that says you can't post top-down pics unless you include a FTS first? I'm sure I saw that written in stone somewhere ...

Here are some tank shots but please keep in mind I pretty much started from scratch again in March this year so it isn't grown in yet. Also please forgive me for not cleaning the back glass - looks better with the blue background.
Also the camera had a hard time with the lighting in the FTS so it looks washed out. Ok I'll stop making excuses and quit whining, it is what it is.

Greg, some of those colonies are huge, especially since your start up was in March! Orange/Green Lobo on right side is enormous and that Naso is BIG! Have you counted how many different SPS pieces you have?

Beautifully done, love those trenches.

When I say started from scratch I am referring to stony corals. I have had some good growth on some things and others not so much. The orange/green rhodactis colonies had been left in the reef along with a few bullet proof things like heliopora & photosynthetic gorgs so they are fairly large. I guess in the picture those "shrooms" do look a lot like a XL lobo colony but unfortunately they aren't. I also bought a few sps colonies from a fellow reefer who shut his tank down in early summer so that gave me a nice boost bbut all in all it's still quite "fraggish" looking.
I promised myself this time to keep the "trenches' open no matter what. Previously because I am a coral junkie I had placed live rock across them so I had more room to add sps but I like the natural feel the canyons add to the reef so I vowed to keep them open. Hopefully I can do it. :lmao: I think there are around 100 sps in there but I haven't actually counted.

Ok Elliot I just did a rough count of the sps in the display and there are about 164 different pieces.

Very nice colour Greg! took me 4 days to catch up to page 73.

can you tell me what camera and lens you use for those nice picture?

Sorry for the tardy reply. That is a lot of pages to read, thanks for looking. For a camera I am presently using my dive camera, a Sony with an underwater housing. There are no special lenses.
