Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

Wow Greg, how did I miss this ? Caught a glance of it on our local board. Sure looking impressive so far. I like the herbie style overflow set-up. If I was to make a tank from scratch thats what I would like to try. I didnt catch if you were going BB or not.

ahoyhoy239 - wow the new tank looks awesome as do all the other in the back. about the corner cleats, can you explain what they are?
Thanks. The corner cleats are extra strips of glass added to further bond the tank together for additional strength.

Jason McK - Looks Great Greg. Love the tank build. Can't say my 370G was done as well.
Thanks much I hope it all goes as planned.

Thanks I have an external herbie on my frag tank and love it so I wanted to run the same type of thing with this, just bigger. No BB for me, I will be running a shallow sandbed. Thanks again.

That looks so pretty. I guess it might actually hold water after all. Considering it is all DIY by Gary. Seriously, if it doesn't come from a factory, it ain't gonna hold - that's all I'm sayin' :D :D :D

Ignore my paranoia. After a few drinks, I get too honest.

It really is sparkly, shiny and new. Congrats on getting the tank you wanted. The corner cleats are even in the upright corners, correct?

Yes they are Marc. Since the wall's frame will hide them in the front & side view I had no 2nd thoughts about adding them for the extra strength they provide. The tank will hold -----my basement is a factory.;)

wow greg, i'm really happy for ya. i just found this thread tonight. i'm stoked for you buddy. this thing is going to be amazing. i really envy your setup and strive to have a tank has healthy as yours. the corals look stunning as usual.

I may have Gary come here and build my next tank if yours does well.

Says Mr. "I'm never going to upgrade my tank again"

Looking great Greg!! I really can't wait to see it filled with your beautiful corals!!

It isn't necessarily an upgrade as much as it would be a replacement for the current box of water. I'm tired of the inherited scratches, and the internal overflows eating up real estate.

I better start rolling more pennies, or it will never happen. :D

:D
This was an issue of consideration for me as well. I now think external overflows are the only way to go. My present display was my first crack at SW. Even though everything I did wrong with that tank went towards my marine tank education I sometimes wish I knew then what I know now so I could have done it right the first time. ;)

Hey Greg...I think this new tank of yours is almost as big as my apartment was in South Korea. Awesome!

If you need help with the transfer down the road, let me know.

Greg, great build and nice to see some of my frags turn into small colonies! That Crazy Desi is looking great! And that tricolor is looking good too!

Maybe I need to start a thread for my upgrade (600 gallon system)..hmm...

Thanks you guys. Drew I very well may need to use your muscle power in the near future. I still need to move the other tanks so the equipment room can get built.

Atomikk nice to hear from you. Yes that desalwi is doing well but that tricolor (bonsai) I got from you never made it. It fell into another coral and lost the fight. (well actually I managed to save a tiny nub that I hope will eventually grow into something). I have been meaning to contact you to get another one:) The tricolours pictured unfortunately are not of that piece. Hopefully the frags you got from me in our trade have done well for you as well.

For me, I didn't have luck with mine as some of them died in the move. Plus, I had major temp issues with my thermometer. So i had some losses. I did lose my desalwii, so I will be hitting you up for a trade soon. Did you see my blog? I am posting about my build too. I have almost the same tank.. 72Lx28Hx36D.

Hey Vlad it looks like your blog is keeping you busy. Let me know when you are ready for some trading.

Im excited for you Greg. We all think your present tank is mind blowing.....this one should be da bomb. If you need help with anything.... moving tanks, aquascaping, whatever let me know.I would be glad to help.

Doug.
