Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

sharuq1 Wow Greg! That is going to be gorgeous! Can't wait to see it in person when everything is in.
Thank you I have my expectations set pretty high for this project.

Dejavu - Great collection of coral. Can't wait to see them all in the new tank. I might have missed it some where, but who is the tank maker?
Thanks. The tank maker is a local guy who also builds for a few of the LFS in town.

Sorry to bore you. When I am in a period of waiting like I am at the moment I use some coral pix to compensate for the lack of activity during these lulls. The corals shown are all going into the new tank so in a way are part of the build. I will be getting more done this upcoming week.

I have finally decided on my sump size.

Copied & pasted this from the RC calculator page.

Using the following input parameters
Tank Length = 60 inches
Tank Width = 24 inches
Tank Height = 19 inches
----------------------------------
Tank volume is calculated as
Tank Volume = 118.4 Gallons

1st chamber will be 20 x 24 - 4 baffles 6x24 -- 2nd chamber 36x24
I am hoping the approximate overflow capacity of 55 gal will be enough. I figure it will be an extra 45-50 gal flowing into it if there's a power outage.

Here is a sample of the back ground I will be using. This shade of blue is a bit darker than I planed but actually reminds me of diving in the Caymans so I can live with it.

The bracing is now completed. We used two 3" center braces fixed to either side of the 24" overflow. My idea was to block as little light as possible while providing good access for service and top down photography but still adding to the necessary strength to prevent any bowing. Also note on the back of the side bracing holes are drilled for the return lines so internal visibility is kept to a minimum.

Thanks Dave, I hope you'll enjoy the ride.;)

Is it a plastic type material that you'll be sealing to the back of the tank? Or is it going to be removable?

I can do it either way.

Greg, just signed up for this thread...it's looking great! My last visit to your house left my jaw hanging down, I can only imagine what my next visit will entail.
