Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

Love the Foxface, Greg!! My foxface, Rupert, named by my son of course,(and believe me, he IS a Rupert) is HUGE!!! I got him as a little fellow and now he is probably 8-9 inches easily. He can't fit through any of his original holes now so he has a heck of a time roaming the tank, although I do have lots of open room too...I know he is probably too big for the tank now, but i can't bear to just take him back to the LFS...he is a spoiled baby!! Plus I have had him going on 2 1/2 years now....

A friend of mine is the Akela for a Cub pack in our area and brought some of his cubs over for a "reef tank tour" last night. It was pretty cool that they were able to earn several requirements towards a few different badges and some fun was had by all.

Thanks, I know how you feel. When I bought this guy the LFS didn't even want to sell him yet because he was so thin & small but I assured them he would be fine. About two years later he has grown immensely and most of that in the last year since moving to the larger tank. One thing is for sure.....nobody messes with him.

Yep & I look like a cranky old man.:lol:
I think the cubs are all about 10 years old.

Yeah in Canada it's traditional to leave your shoes at the door, especially in the winter. It was fun to have them over, thanks.

I guess I'll have to call it a failed experiment so I've decided the Imperator angel has to go but not sure how to catch that rascal. Anyone have any ideas?

He has almost completed devoured a large s.caliendrum colony and now started to eat my prized blue stag so that is the last straw. I need to get him out of the reef tank.

I was thinking the same thing, just wondering how many other fish I'll catch first.:worried:

I tried removing a sixline wrasse by fishing for him with a 1/4" hook with the barb filed off. It was disastrous. Everyone in the tank knew what was going on: the wrasse knew I wanted him out so avoided the bait like the plaque; everyone else knew that the bait was "sweet, tasty mysis" and yeah I caught nearly everyone at one point. Had a moment of abject terror when my sailfin tang swallowed the hook whole (I had no idea how I would have gotten it out if he hadn't spat it out, without incident a few seconds later.) Him swallowing the hook was the end of it for me, I never tried again.

I have been sick the past several days so I've had more time than usual to veg out in front of the tank and I've noticed the meridithi angel really picks at the corals as well so I may need to catch him as well.:sad2: It appears these angels are actually devils!:mad2: It seems that some of their behavior is learned, add in one bad fish and it teaches others to do the same things.

my Imperator was a model citizen until I added a galaxia that he promptly ate, this apparently sparked his appetite and he started eating other LPS's he never touched for many months before :lol:

Here's my new piece of A.desalwi that was just cut from the same original mother colony that the old one came from. It's pretty sweet already but I'm anxious to see if I can get it coloured up the way the previous one did. I have it chillin' in the frag tank for the time being until I figure out just the right spot for it to call home in the display.:rollface: And for comparison here is a link to a picture of the old one.

No problem Vlad however I lost the piece I got from you and this new one came from another source & I think yours was hairier than this one. I had one from each of you for a while but neither survived to get into this tank. My other friend has had his colony for about 5-6 years. It gets doing really well for him and then he has a problem in his tank, looses most of it and it grows back. I think this is his 3rd time regrowing it. He gave me a decent size frag (as seen above in my prop tank) and it seems to have settled into the display reef quite well now so as long as the present issues I am having don't kill it I'll get you a frag when it grows out a bit. (I may be able to talk my buddy into just getting me another so you don't have to wait so long) I want to get a piece of that branching cyphastrea you have one of these days too.
