a 5 gallon bucket wouldn't fit between the rails, so there will be (2) of these xmas wrapping paper holders. one will be cut down to 15" tall & be made into a RDSB & the other will be ATO reservoir

upper views - slide slides out the front about 16" & out the back the same. out the front for bulb changes etc & out the back for more access to the tank. the ballasts will be mounted on top of the drawer.

these trim around the lower part of the front of the tank will be easily removable to move the tank in & out, but will hide the black rim

i still need to make a small stand in the rear for the RBSD bucket to sit over the closed loop pump that will sit on the bottom.

i also need to mount the pvc pipe that i am running the extension cords from the bottom to the top for the lights.

lastly, i need to make a box for my electrical outlets. i think i'm gonna mount it to the top of the sump area on a hinge so it will fold down into the front opening, & then be able to rotate up to the top out of sight & out of the way :)

then i'm gonna get started skinning it & then paint :D

stunt 101 haha nice stand

i got the 50 gal sump done by the way thanks to james and skirossi

here's a pic haven't hooked it up yet, have to build the corner flow pipes

Holy overbuilt stand, batman! :eek1:

Most people say cockroaches will still be kicking after a nuclear blast... I'm thinking they'll be living in your stand. :D

it's not overbuild.....it's just all-in-one :p

the tank will be fully enclosed except for the front & part of the sides up to the verticle support from the tank base to the canopy section on each side. i did this because i am building the rock wall part the way up each side of the tank & the rear part of the sides will be hidden by the skinning.

to put the tank in, i lift the front canopy door & take the lower trim piece off & it slides right in. the canopy section is self-supporting & will be the same with or without the tank there.

there will be a pair of door on the lower front & on each side under the tank. there will be hidden doors on each side in the rear to give access to the ATO reservoir & the plumbing. otherwise, from the side, everything is hidden

Not overbuilt? Are you kidding me? I can see how many screws you have in that thing... you can't fool me!!! :p

oh, yeah....well there's that LOL

i was a machinist for 10 years, so i like even spacing & consistancy LOL

i figured i had a box & didn't want any left over, so.......there ya go

LOL... Well, thats one way of doing it. I'm surprised you didn't do the same thing with the wood! :D

ai-reefer, What is the purpose of the two boxes in each corner of the sump for? And if there for your water return to the sump have you flow tested them yet? Unless you are not going to have much water flow (very little) I have doubts if there big enough to handle any flow without just flooding over the top! Good idea but i think too small. If you made them bigger you could add filter socks and raise them off the bottom to let the water flow out the bottom into the main part of the sump. Just trying to help you get a good design. And after looking again they would also both need to be on the same side or you defeat the purpose. Water in on one side and your return pump on the other side! Correct me if i am wrong.

If i had to guess, the overflow is coming down both sides, the return pump sits in the middle. Probably a fuge on one side and a skimmer on the other.

yeah they are bubble traps/filter sock holders for the overflows from the tank....as said above skimmer on one side fuge on the other & return chamber in the middle

If they are filter sock holders where is the water going to come out: It would have to run over the top, which would defeat the purpose! And they are still too small IMO. PLus why only one bubble trap when you have returns on both sides? If i were you i would think about that design some more!!! Not going to work like you want.

My sump is the same design (center return) and I don't have a problem with only having a bubble trap on the skimmer side. :)

And as long as his filter socks are above the water line, he'll be fine on that.

If not, though, Bill's right... it ain't gonna happen. :D

Thanks Brandon, Thought i was the only one who could see a problem, Just needs a little tweaking and it will work like a charm! I would raise them up and let the water flow under the bottom, no chance of the sock not working that way!

The chambers on the corners don't go all the way to the top. They are 1 inch below the black rim.

But i see what you are saying, if there is a problem i could always drill a hole at the bottom.

yeah i thought when we were talking about it, i mentioned that they should be raised of=r have some type of "teeth" in them to allow water to flow out the bottom....keeping most of the bubbles at trapped at the top since most of them will float.

if you save this pic & then zoom in & look at the ones on this sump (think pic came from melev's site), you can see that it has "feet"
sump.jpg

so yeah, i'd say make some holes(s) at the bottom or a fliter sock would probably contain most of the bubbles
