OMG!!! My clown is gone!!!!

OK, as you guys know, i had a pair of ocellaris clownfish...they were happy and healthy in my 5.5 until i got my 75 set up....well, about a week ago, the male died. Unexpectedly, and of un-known causes. the prameters did not change, and there were no parasites or signs of illness on him. SO, then my female was left alone, and i was oging to buy another clown to replace the male, but then yesterday, the FEMALE WAS GONE! I have no idea where she could have gone. It did not jump out, there is no carcass at ALL, and my other fish in there are all fine and dandy...lol...but i cannot figure out where the H*** this fish is. I mean, unless it buried itself nder the sand or rockwork, it is gone.... If anybody can give me insight as to what may have happened, then please do. On the lighter side, my Tang is AWESOME, he lives my rockwork and is still very skiddish. Are Scopas supposed to be that skiddish? and i will enver run a tank withohuht a UV sterilizer, it is awesome, when i baught the tank, it came with a couple small dots of Ich on its fins, well, after about an hour in my tank, they were gone. I didnt know how fast it would be, but that was awesome, and i have NO algae problems, i see like two spots where algae WANTS to grow, but it cant, and it is slowly depleting until it is nothing.

So WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CLONWS !!! :(
 
Water parameters? BTW do you still have that damsel in there? I would guess he could be harrassing your other fish.
 
Clowns aren't known for it but you should could check your overflows. I've had several fish that have gone there for a time-out.

probably the same place some of mine are! they just disappeared too - same situation. No signs of sickness.

but, i did recently loose a clown tang, only to see inthe corner of the tank the hermits were picking a clear skull and spine clean. We are pretty sure we seen it the night before too! It did look like it had puffy/fuzzy lips.

Do you have any pets? freeroaming cats or dogs

They could have gotten the carcass if she went carpet surfing.

Do you have a healthy scavenging cleanup crew?

A good cleanup crew could have eaten most of a small fish, and the rest being so light could have been moved to a hidden crevice of the rockwork.

If you put wild stuff into the tank without QT im guessing either something ate it or there could have been like, the fish equivalent of ebola or some weird bacteria or something that could have just knocked your fish flat on its fins.

Check rockwork, overflow sump etc though but yeah.. the stuff you got at the beach can be very very aggresive, i would be concerned about it first and foremost if you mixed it in with typical reef dwelling fish
 
Hrmm, still interested in water parameters and the damsel. But Christie and Ryan have a point, if you put one of the wild blennies or gobies in, they are very aggressive. Then again so are Damsels.

It is a new tank, so possibly New Tank Syndrome?
 
ok, this is in my 5.5 nano, so ther eis no overflows and , no the damsel that harasses fish is in the 75 at the moment, and i cat get him out. There are only VERY small crabs in my 5.5 and they are the green porcelean crabs, they wouldnt mess with the fish,a dn even if they decided too, they were too small... the parameters are

ammonia: .25
Nitrates:40
nitrites: 0
Ph: 7.4
 
true, but it is not at levels that are dangerous to fish...maybe some inverts, and i will do a water change now

LOL - I didn't consider a HOB overflow. :rolleyes:

Yeah, it would be obvious. It would also be a pretty lucky jump not to land on the floor too.

That little ammonia might be telling you that the fish actually died in there and decomposed.

Of course, unless that was there before the fish went missing.
 
Sorry, thought you were talking about the 75. Hrmmm in a 5.5 nano there aren't many places to hide. lol. Check the floor around the tank? Have a cat?

So were they in the 5.5 or the 75? I'm confused. Did setting up a 75 with nothing in it upset them? Lost.
