OMG! my electric bill doubled!

ricka I think the make the bills so complicated so that you can't beguin to really understand them easily.

Here's the details of the horror. :uzi: SCE

Honestly, there is no way in heck that this lines up with that chart.

The thing that frustrates me most of all is that they always talk about how they want people to understand how to conserve energy. However, when it comes to something more than "use less energy", they are short of meaningful answers.

Honesly, perhaps someone should try to get ahold of someone at Edison to try to address our community in general. I mean, we all seem to be energy conscious to one degree or another - if not just because of the money involved - however not having any real coherent information makes it impossible for us to make the proper choices.

Solar would cost me about 24K and would take forever to pay for itself (in that all it would do is supply enough to keep me out of the highest tier; it wouldn't power the whole house by any means...). And I've done about as much conserving as I can, really. So what's left? Unhook the power from the pole, I guess...

Perhaps I could try to look into finding a contact that could go over this stuff a bit better. After all, my companie's electric bill is in the millions per month, so maybe they'd do us a favor and line us up with someone who could better explain it.

I'll see what I can do...

I borrowed a Kill-A-Watt metter from Reefmeister, and have been running some tests.

Looks as if running 6hours per day of 2x250w se mh on mag ballasts and 400w of vho on icecap will run me around 162 KWH/Month.
If I turn off one of the 250's, it will be around 122kwh/month.

In comparison, the rest of my system running 24/7 (pumps, powerheads, refugium light, etc) will be around 310 kwh/month. I could maybe cut that by a powerhead or two, or go to a smaller pump on my closed loop.

Yeah, but do the math. How much of your total consumption is that? Estimate it at the highest tier and that will give you a worst case as far as how much it costs you to run your tank...

I'm pulling 900 watts with a power factor of 90. This is total load. Not sure what it is when the lights are off.... I'll have to get off my butt and run the KWH per month to figure that out. Unless someone knows the numbers off the top of their head...

;)

That's it. I only removed my account number, my total bill and that's about it. What in the world are they doing with your bills? HOLY FRIPPIN COW!!!`

Electricity usage is tiered, so people who use less electricity pay less money per kilowatt hour than those who use a lot.

Additionally, if the local company (here, SCE) has to buy electricity from DWR, they buy it at a fixed rate but more expensive rate and it's NOT tiered by usage.

They also split the fee into delivery and generation fees. The tiers are the same -- if you add the two fees together that's your rate per tier.

In short, it's a mess, but a consistant mess.

Hi Nicole,

So why does the baseline show up twice in each section? They don't really explain that.

Ahh, that helps a bit. Bugger. At least I understand it now.

Liar!

;)

Even the people who made it up don't understand it!

I was speaking with someone at Edison last week and he told me that they sat in a class about the rates that was a day long, and even after that, they still didn't understand it...

I don't see that it could be THAT complicated, really, but that was what I was told...

*shrug*
