Omg !!!!!

Hey Richard...uh... that was weird. I'm not so sure you double posted. I responded to your first post, my response never showed but your post came up again. Not sure how that happened  Anyway there are like 20,000 larve I'm sure  I seem to have enough rots and I'm gonna push them to bbs as soon as possible, tomorrow is day 4 and I'm gonna offer them.

Rotifers holding up well, in fact everything is just going perfectly . Kinda scary. My rots have never done so well, I have more than enough to feed this huge hatch plus the tomatos that will hatch tonight. The timing is perfect. The nest hatched on Thursday night so I had all weekend to baby them. Today is day 4 and they still look fantastic. Since I have so many rots I will hold off on the bbs another day or two I guess, maybe just add a few to see what happens.

Last night the tank bottom was filthy again, just hours after cleaning. I thought to myself "What IS this shi..." , then I realized that is exactly what it is  Just never had an experience like this before, it is awesome.

have any pics of all the babies? would be interesting to see what it looks like and how much of a concentraion of them there is.

I tried some pics but they didn't come out well at all. I have been keping track of what I pull out dead, 1000 so far. Hasn't even made a dent in the population. They are way undersized for one week, they run out of rotifers sometime during the day and I feed again as soon as I get home. Normally my gsm start to take bbs at 4-6 days, no way these can eat one at 7.

Not so well, losing a lot daily. I was just writing Morgan about this. There are just too many to get by on two cleanings/ feedings per day, they need more attention. The tank fouls and they run out of food quickly. Still have over 1000 though I'm sure. I will be home all day building the new rack, stop by if you want.

Sure, but then I'd have multiple work  I get up at 4:00 now and barely make it to work on time, if I had to clean & feed any more tanks I'd never make it. Having a job really blows :mad2:

I do the bulk of the work in the evening -- make sure I have all the water, etc. I need ready, that I have enough food prepped, etc. It helps. I could use a more efficient set-up, though.

Man, I'm having trouble keeping up with about 200, I can't even imagine.

Nicole makes a good point though (I have been late for work a few times with only 6 tanks). I'll have to see if I can make myself do that Sunday night.

My system is currently 25 tanks for 800 gallons actual water volume and today I built the rack to add another 6 tanks for about 75 more gallons. Plus I have a 125 display tank in my living room. I "prep" as much as possible in the evening but there is still a lot to do in morning. Every minute counts :D Also I have other larvae & nests to care for so the maroons are staying in one tank and I will do the best I can

David,

From my experience that is the way maroons are. They do very well in the begining then as time progresses, say day 7-14 they have some decent die offs.

Of course, there are expceptions, but that is what I have seen with my maroons. Maybe Ed can chime in here with his observations since he has seen many many maroon pairs.

The thing is I am far from complaining :D This is my first real hatch and I am thrilled, I am pretty sure I will pull several hundred thru if not 1000 or more. I simply can't get over how many there are, I have lost well over 1000 now and it is almost inconsequential, the tank is still packed with fish.

Today things are looking better, they are doing great again. I have plenty of space to grow them out, just nervous about getting them through met and onto non living foods.
