On going Phosphate issues.. Need some help!

I agree. Nitrates are consumed at a faster rate then the phosphate so GFO should also be run and/or increase nitrates with heavier feeding.

I had terrible problems and carbon dosing finally did it, like a miracle. You have to do it right though. Not hard or complicated, just done correctly.

I simply started dosing NaNO3 and I haven't had a PO4 problem since. I don't use GFO and I don't even carbon dose. Heavier feeding will increase NO3 and PO4, so it won't eliminate the NO3 deficit problem.

I dose nitrate because I was nitrate limited. Biological processes consume far more NO3 than PO4, and I've never had detectable nitrates but I've struggled with phosphates.

Here's a fairly in depth thread on the subject.

This is a reason not a why. Why do you dose nitrates? How are you nitrate limited?

the op never stated what his nitrates where, nobody asked. We should know this before advising, lol. In disbelief right now lol.

Ashr: What is you nitrate at?

I was responding to your post. YOU were advising bringing up nitrates with heavier feeding which would also raise phosphates. "lol"

Yes of corse it will raise phosphate. I was stating options. I had success dosing vinegar and increased feeding. Drove my nitrates and phosphates to zero.
