ok so here is my question. i'm sure i'll get flamed for not having a QT tank set up, but i will soon after this. my powder blue tang came down with a slight case of ick. nothing terrible. he has been in my tank for about 2 months now. i've had success with kick ick and have begun using it in my tank. i also have a green mandarin in the tank as well. i've tried google'ing the topic on kick ick and mandarins to see if the kick ick would have any bad side effects on the mandarin. does anyone have first hand knowledge or any ideas if it could be bad?

asking because the wife came home last night and went to shut the light off and noticed that the mandarin is now a pale color instead of its normal brightness. i guess it kind of looks like it would once you turn the light on after the dark period. i havent seen it yet today since i just got home from work, but thought i would post up and see if anyone had any thoughts for me.

i'll check the mandarin also later this afternoon when i turn the light on as well. hopefully she was just freaking out over nothing.

Try a FW dip on the tang (5min?). Also to help prevent it, try to soak some flake/pellet foods with garlic oil. It will also help the ich the tang has now to "jump ship" so to speak, but won't kill it. Kick-Ich only attacks the free swimming "jerks" anyways. So it'll help.

As for the mandarin, maybe the Kick-Ich is attacking it's food supply? Not too sure there, just hoping it's from the light being off for a prolonged period of time. So umm, buy a timer =p

well the mandarin looks fine, she was freaking out over nothing. the ick is slowing disappearing off the tang so all should be good.

the new puffer is doing fine. although the lionfish isnt its biggest fan lol

QT with copper is preferable to anything else, and you could even do it as soon as you see the ich. I once lost 2 tangs, a foxface, and about 3 or 4 other fish due to an ich outbreak that I tried to control with "reef safe" treatments that didn't get it under control. Now I pull out any fish that looks like it has ich and treat it in a separate tank.

yea copper treatments are the way to go, in the process of setting up a 20 gal. QT tank specifically for that.
