Could anyone please tell me if it is OK to use a product called Sheachem De-nitrae or Zero Nitrae in a tank where you will be adding corals. I had a fight with a jar of flake food and the jar won!
I have been doing 15-20% water changes with R/O every few days and my nitrates are still of the chart!

I have a 55g with only a perc clown fish and a firefish gobie in the tank and about 25lbs of live rock so far.

it will help, and yes you can use it, however this alone will not lower your nitrates that much if you are of the charts. my advise will be to do small daily water changes until you lower your nitrates to acceptable levels, then start using this to maintain your nitrate levels low, and then jump to small water changes once a week or so.

remember that diluting the nitrates down, takes an amasing number of water changes, as everytime you do a water change you are only removing a fraction of the total, while the producers keep producing, so dont get frustrated if you only brought it half way down in a week, keep at it, and you will get there.
